Description:

The 670-foot-long Chapel Bridge is located in the heart of Lucerne, Switzerland, where the waters of Lake Lucerne flow into River Reuss. The wooden bridge was constructed in the mid 1300s. In the 17th Century, a series of paintings depicting the history of Lucerne were installed along the archway of the bridge. Sadly, a major fire in 1993 destroyed the majority of the paintings and much of the bridge. The bridge was quickly rebuilt and other old paintings installed. Some of the damaged paintings remain. The ever-present swans were perfect to include in the photograph.
