As a family, didn't see a need to visit Grand Canyon more than a full day.  The awesome size of the canyon is great, but it's so vast, there's a point where once you've seen the canyon for several hours - from various vantage points - you're OK to move on.  Visiting the National Park at least once, however, is absolutely a must.
