In December 2007 we traveled to the North Island of New Zealand.  We had heard a great deal about the beauty of the northern part of the North Island but had never been there.  After flying into Christchurch we rented a car and drove to Picton.  In Picton we asked around and found a boat company willing to take us out into Marlborough Sound and drop us off to hike a section of the Queen Charlotte Track and then pick us up at the end of the day.  The views of Marlborough Sound from the hiking trail were incredible (as the attached photo shows).  The hike too was interesting, wandering through big tree ferns and seeing wild foxglove flowers along the way.
