The Temple of Heaven (Tian Tan) in Beijing, China once was only visited by a handful of people once or twice a year. The vast grounds and gardens of this temple were built using tax payer's money, while only the emperor of China and a select few courtiers with him. The Temple of Heaven was used to pray for a good harvest, and to be thankful for the last year's crops. Slowly, over the years, the temple was opened up to more and more people until it became the national tourist site it is today!
