This is a flock of wild flamingos by Celestun, Mexico. It was exciting for me to see so many flamingos in the wild without having to travel all the way to Africa. I like this photo due to all the different colors - the pink flamingos, the blue sky, the white clouds, and the pale green water, and the dark green foliage on the shore. The photo was taken July 3, 2007 during our relaxing one week vacation in Mexico.
During our one week relaxing vacation to the Yucatan in Mexico we took a boat tour from Celestun to see the flamingos. I did not realize flamingos lived wild in Mexico - I only thought they lived wild in Africa. I didn't think I was going to be able to go on safari in Africa anytime soon, so I was very excited to add a stop in Celestun while on our Mexico trip. It was a beautiful day. I was pleasantly surprised all my pictures turned out as well as they did - I was pretty much shooting blind because the sun had washed out my LCD screen, and I could really see much through the viewfinder. Plus the boat was moving at a fairly quick pace, so I didn't have much confidence regarding my focusing of the camera. The photo was taken July 3, 2007.
October 2009, Mazatlan, Mexico, on vacation and Tropical Storm Rick took aim on Mazatlan. This picture was taken very early morning while we were in the strongest part of the storm.
This is the cathedral in Izmal, Mexico. I was originally disappointed that it was such a dreary day when we were visiting the town. But the dark skies made a great contrast with the yellow walls, and the rain made the grass a verdant green. My husband and our guide were walking through the empty courtyard, which can hold many, many people. I took the photo on July 2, 2007.
We were on our way out of the town of Izmal, Mexico (in Yucatan) when I spotted a couple on their motorcycle. I felt sorry for them because it was raining and they were getting very wet. The streets would normally be full of people, but were empty because of the rain. The town of Izmal is famous for all the buildings being painted yellow. The yellow walls made a nice contrast against the wet street and our bright red rental car. I took the photo on July 2, 2007 during our one week dream trip to Mexico.
