  • Shining A Light On You

    • From: aimeefan
    • Description:
No one really prepared me for the sun in South Africa. The light changes from moment to moment and the colors change from second to second. This sunrise had an incredible glow that felt like it could be from nowhere else and made us all feel special just to be watching it and I hope you can get in touch with your specialness a bit more by seeing this completely untouched photograph, which I was lucky enough to be viewing. We all look at pictures of sunrises and sunsets and forget that they actually exist, we just have to look past all the buildings to see them....

  • Monkey To Happiness

    • From: aimeefan
    • Description:
This lemur was inches from my face in a monkey sanctuary in South Africa. The area was open, so we all strolled around while different primates jumped everywhere. This fellow was as curious about us as we were of him, and must have been wondering, this close, why we humans wear clothes...

  • Riding With A Penguin Beach At

    • From: aimeefan
    • Description:
At Boulder's Beach on the peninsula in Simonstown, South Africa, you will be met by a colony of penguins who will be right next to you. As you walk amongst them, you will be amazed that you are actually looking at penguins. We do not see sights like these in New York City, except maybe during certain fashion shows, but that's another story. This guy was strolling alone for a while until he picked out a prospective mate. If you look closely, you can see a glint in his eye and a smile on his face....

  • Gaudi's Temple de la Sagrada F

    • From: skerkam
    • Description:
A beautiful view of the famous Gaudi Cathedral taken from the top of Montjuic -- where the Barcelona Olympics took place in 1992. This cathedral is a testimonial to all that is "Gaudi." It is a futuristic church that has been under construction for over 100 years. The symbolism of the intricate features (The Virgin Mary, The Nativity, Faith, Hope, and Charity etc.) will leave you amazed as will the breath taking views from the top of one of its 8 spires. Once it is completed (projected for 2026) it will be the largest Cathedral built.

  • Forum Boarium fountain

    • From: antfern
    • Description:
Pope Clement XI commissioned Carlo Bizzaccheri, an architect from Perugia, to erect a fountain as part of the project to refurbish the square outside the church of Santa Maria in Cosmedin. On August 11, 1717 work began on the foundations. Bizzaccheri, who had the good idea of taking Pope Clement's crest as his inspiration, designed a great octagonal basin with concave sides, so that the whole formed an 8-pointed star, part of the Pope's Albani family crest. The whole fountain is made of travertine and, in the center, two powerful, scaly tritons (the work of Francesco Moratti) rise above a group of rocky outcrops (carved by Filippo Bai). The overly huge tritons are kneeling back-to-back with their tails entwined, their raised arms supporting a second basin shaped to look like an open seashell. The basin also has Pope Clement's coat-of-arms carved on opposite sides (three hillocks beneath a star). In the background of the picture, you can see the round Temple of Hercules Victor or Hercules Olivarius is an ancient edifice located in the Forum Boarium, surrounded by Corinthian columns on all sides. It dates from about 120 b.C. This beautiful small temple is the earliest surviving marble building in Rome.

  • Coastline Near Cadaques, Spain

    • From: steve778
    • Description:
A shot of the coastline from the town of Cadaques, Spain. I spent a few days here doing almost nothing. Things I know for sure I did: I swam; I drove a scooter around the town for no reason; I drank espressos, again for no reason; and I skipped a ton of stones. That last part, too, for no apparent reason.

Giverny is about 75km from Paris, and there are day trips available. We visited on our own with a rental car on our way to Normandy. Monet's home and gardens are beautiful and very inspiring. The little town of Giverny is old and still looks that way- it's very nice to stroll thru.
