This is one of my all time favourites.  It's light and healthy.  Pick from wide selection of veggies, tofu and fish balls etc.  Then tell the seller if you want it in clear soup or dry and drizzled in a special soya bean sauce.   Noodles and rice are optional.  As you can see from the signage, it only costs S$4 (US$2.90) in Singapore for 7 pieces.  This chinese dish is very popular with the ladies as you can pick as little or as much as you want and omit the carbs (noodles)!

These delicious slices of fish are braised in soy sauce and oyster sauce, with ginger, spring onions and green peppers.  Best eaten with steamed rice.  I ate this at Lau Pa Sat (a hawker or food centre in Singapore), it costs only S$6.90 (about US$5).  This traditional Chinese dish can be found in some Chinese restaurants and food centres in Singapore.

  • Satay seller Satay seller

    • Description:
That's Bobo, the friendly Malay satay seller at Lau Pa Sat in Singapore.   Cooking 15 sticks of satay on hot coals takes about 5 minutes of furious fanning (he's holding a straw fan).   Gosh it was hot & smoky standing right in front of him, as I tried to get a good photo.  But it smelt simply delicious!    Check out the tasty satay in my other photo!

    • Description:

You can always tell if a satay stall is nearby if you smell the wonderful aroma of grilled skewered meat.  These well marinated pieces of beef, chicken and mutton are grilled over hot coals.  People usually dip their satay in peanut gravy but I prefer to eat it on its own.  It is often served with fresh cucumber and ketupat (rice cake wrapped in weaved coconut leaves).   This Malay dish is commonly found in most hawker or food centres in Singapore.   Check out my next picture of the satay seller in action!

  • Prague in Winter 1. Prague in Winter 1.

    • Description:

View from Charles Bridge.  This photo was taken in early Feb 1997.  I was sorting out some of my photos the other day and I realised to my horror that some of the older photos have started to turn a bit yellowish around the edges.   So I started scanning them like crazy because these photos were taken with a normal camera (back then there were no digital cameras).

Anyway, back to Prague.  It the first time I have ever seen an entire city blanketed in pristine snow, and it was absolutely beautiful and magical.

I have never felt so cold in my life!  It was about -5 degrees Celcius but it sure felt like  -100 degrees Celcius to me.  Being a "tropical baby", I struggled to take photos (fingers were so stiff and cold) and I struggled to walk as well.  Can somebody tell me how to walk on snow without slipping?!  Perhaps I wasn't wearing the right type of shoes (I was wearing my usual black Reebok trainers for heavy duty walking).

Back then, Prague wasn't as touristy yet.  The only "touristy" thing I could see were the lovely postcards on sale.  Sad to say, my photos of Prague didn't turn out anywhere close to those gorgeous postcards.  The weather was mostly muggy throughout.  I told myself that I would return to Prague someday, in Summer.   Apparently, there are artists at work during Summer on Charles Bridge.   I am sure Prague would look just as magnificent in winter as it does in Summer!

I like this silhouette with a bit of the rooftop on the right of the photo.  In order to take this photo, I was squatting like crazy trying to find the best angles.  People passing by gave me strange looks, probably thinking I was crazy!!!  Yes, I am tree crazy!  I love trees!

This is a very uncommon sight in Singapore.  Trees are usually evergreen all year round in tropical Singapore.  A few trees shedded almost all their leaves in a unusually hot and dry spell.
