  • Magical Mykonos Magical Mykonos

    • From: randyrick
    • Description:

Mykonos, Greece is an island you just have to see to believe.  When I think of Mykonos, I think of bright color, windmills, white, white and more white!  Seemingly every building is a bright white, accented by bright blues, reds, greens or yellows painted on doors, rooftops, and window shutters.  I took this photo during an all day stop on a recent  Azamara cruise.  I had been to Myknonos before, but never saw it from this vantage point.  I like how both windmills framed my shot of "Little Venice" in the background, and further in the distance, our cruise ship docked in the port.  Notwithstanding the bright blues and white in the picture, I was very happy to see the small splash of green in the foreground and the detail of the windmills really rounded out the picture for me.  I"ve been to a few Greek islands in my life, but for me, nothing compares to Mykonos.

  • Why You’ll Love The Balance To Why You’ll Love The Balance Tour

    • From: Isabelle_Hillier
    • Description:

There are four reasons why you’ll love The Balance Tour.

      Reason No. 1: The Trainings

Most people try to get as far away from the rat race. That’s why many people take a tour in a refreshing place like Greece where they get to experience a whole new world away from the one they are so accustomed to.

But the one thing that sets The Balance Tour with Peter Pappas apart from the rest of regular touring services is the clever way Peter incorporates physical training with touring. Starting with day one, and at least twice a day for the duration of the tour, Peter takes tourist on an invigorating workout. The exercise program that Peter puts the tourists on provides them with that much needed boost in energy to keep them going while they go around places in Greece.

      Reason No. 2: Athens

Athens in Greece lets visitors see a glimpse of the Old Greece while experience it in the modern set up. Peter took us to Acropolis, Marina Zea, Mikrolimano, Thissio, Monastiraki, Thimotiko Theatro ,shopping at Kolonaki and if chance bouzoukia in Glyfada.  He even took us to places where only locals are frequenting. The nice thing about touring with Peter is that he knows the place so well that it makes tourists feel almost instantly comfortable with the place.

Reason No. 3: The Islands of Syros, Naxos and Santorini

Greece is home to some of the finest islands in Europe where you can spend the day chilling out in the Mediterranean sun. The islands boast some of the nicest beaches where you can experience a refreshing dip into the sea, and some of the most majestic cliff tops where the views themselves offer a thrilling adventure.

Reason No. 4: The local delicacies

As Peter knows Greece like no other, he lets tourists in on another adventure that would render any Greek experience incomplete; sampling foods that mostly the locals enjoy. With Peter, tourists see what locals see, experience what locals experience and eat what locals experience.

Book a tour to Greece with Peter Pappas’ The Balance Tour and experience Greece like no other.

      VATHI – SAMOS, GREECE

If you want to get the feel of true relaxation a week in Samos comes highly recommended.

Valhi Harbor is one such place to spend an evening just reflecting.  The evenings are quite and the views are beautiful.

From Valhi you can take a short boat ride and Patmos, where John the Divine pined the Book of Revelations.  You can visit the cave where God spoke to him.

Another place to visit is in Turkey.  A boat trip to Kusadasi, Turkey, where you can take a guided tour to Ephesus.

The Emily is a great bed and breakfast to stay at.  Just 300 meters from the port and they will meet you when the ferry arrives.

We took the fast ferry to Santorini, my absolute favorite island.  The speedy catamaran docks at the "new" port, which is good since you can travel from there by taxi up to the main town of Fira - or Thera, depending on which designation the Greeks choose to use, as is the case with many names. (One definitely understands why the expression "It's all Greek to me" came about after seeing so many different names and alphabets referring to the same place.)  The "old" port lies on the other side of town and is accessible only by cable car or the traditional donkey ride up nearly 600 steps.

Santorini DoorwayWe stayed at the Hotel Astir Thira which was a stone's throw from all the activity in town. We took WAY too many pictures in our brief three days there.  I have a whole collection of just picturesque doorways!  Santorini is what remains of one of the largest volcanic eruptions on earth. Originally one island, it is now a caldera made up of the crescent shaped main island and several smaller islands of volcanic ash. Many conjecture that it is the site of the lost city of Atlantis, now lying at the bottom of the sea.  Thira faces the center of the caldera and Oia is another charming city to the east on Santorini.  We took a delightful sunset dinner cruise around the area, stopping to swim a couple times in the fluctuating currents of warmer water created by the still active volcano.
