Moab, Utah is a paradise! I think it has something for just about anyone. Great outdoor activities abound! You can raft down the mighty Colorado and Green Rivers, hike in the red rock canyons or in the beautiful Manti La Sal Forest, repel, go fishing, mountain bike on world class trails, or just take a simple walk in some of the most unique and breath taking areas on earth.
You can't beat the weather. If you love the heat - the summers in Moab bring it. Summer temps can top 110 F. However, escape from the heat is only a short drive up the La Sal Mountain Loop Road, where temperatures can be up to 30 degrees cooler.
Moab and the surrounding area is historically and geographically rich with ancient Pueblo/Anasazi dwellings and cliff art to modern Native American cultural influences. The unique geography has drawn movie producers, including Stephen Spielberg and are a draw for amture and professional photographers alike. You can'f find many places that are blessed with as many state and national parks, forests, and heritage sites! Cuisine and shopping opportunities are enriched by the many ethnic and cultural influences in the area. Moab even had a hand in the Cold War (as a uranium mining center - no worries, no enriched uranium and the mills have been closed for many years).

A World Heritage Site, Butrint has Greek, Roman and Byzantine ruins, all piled next to and on top of each other.
This city is a world heritage site. It is 900 years old
The Grand Place in Antwerp is one of the most stunning city centers in Europe. Dating back to the 16th century, the Grand Place burned in 1576 and was rebuilt and then renovated in the 19th century. The Brabo fountain was added in 1887. I originally misidentified this picture as being taken in Brussels but seo2007 spotted it and I have made the corrections.
The center of old Antwerp is the Grand Place. It has a rich history and seems to always be crowded with tourists from all over Europe and the world. There are plenty of excellent restaurants along with lace shops, chocolate shops, and every other kind of shop. We were on a bus tour from Amsterdam and our time at this World Heritage Site was far too short. Antwerp and Brussels is on our list of places to go for a longer stay. When I originally posted this picture I misidentified it as being in Brussels but seo2007 caught my error. Thanks!
This is a telephoto detail of Saint George slaying the dragon, just one of the fine trimmings of the ornate guild houses in Antwerp Grand Place. I could spend days at this place and the other sites in Antwerp and Brussels. Great restaurants, chocolate, and beer! Maybe the beer made me misidentify this picture when I first posted it.

MaryEllen enjoying the intricate iznik tile work at the Topkapi Palace in Istanbul. After spending about five hours view the magnificent grounds, buildings, and exhibits we had a real feel for the opulence of the Ottoman Empire. So many rooms, so many tiles, so many jewels, so much excess.
