    Halong Bay has about 3000 islands.  It's north of Haiphong Harbor, near the Gulf of Tonkin and the South China Sea.  If it looks like the base for a James Bond villain, that's because it was a key location in Tomorrow Never Dies (1997).  It takes a few hours to get here from Hanoi, but is definitely worth it.

    This was taken during a trip to Vietnam.  The group met in Hanoi and then drove to Halong Bay, a World Heritage site.  We stayed on a house boat and traveled around the bay.  each day we got in kayaks and visited floating villages, caves and other natural sights.  This boy was at a house in a floating village.  We were in kayaks.  All of the people in the floating villages, both kids and adults, seemed really happy.  Taken with a Nikon N90S, Sigma 75 - 300 mm lens and Kodak Ultra 400 film.

    This picture was taken during a trip to Vietnam.  The trip was two weeks long and started in Hanoi.  The first week was spent on a house boat in Halong Bay, a world heritage site.  We slept on the boat and kayked from the boat each day, visiting floating villages, caves, beaches and shrines.  We spent the second week in the northern part of the country, in Ba Be National Park.  We spent two nights in a Tay village (in the chief's house) and visited three different markets.  We also kayaked on a river and took hikes.  This woman was at a lunch stop that we made while kayaking on a river.  As soon as we arrived, she wandered over with a basket and sat down.  She seemed to be selling some kind of herb.
