Just one of many, many ancient Roman ruins in Sicily.
We were in Paestum, Italy visiting the three Greek Temples there. I had added Paestum to our itinerary since I didn't think I'd make it to Greece for quite some time, and here was a chance to see the best preserved Greek ruins outside of Greece. It struck me funny that a group of nuns were visiting a place of ancient pagan religious rites. Of course, I did not ask what religion they were, so maybe it was an appropriate stop on their tour. I took the photo on September 25, 2004 during our three week dream trip to Italy.
The Fontana di Trevi or Trevi Fountain is the center piece to of the small Trevi square, at the intersection of Via del Lavatore and Via della Stamparia. We “stumbled” on the fountain on our walk from the Piazza Barberini and its famed Fontana del Tritone. This is the joy of Rome. Walking down side streets and exploring the ancient city; especially if it’s your first time in the city.
Because of it fame and beauty, this small square can be jammed packed with tourists. But don’t let that stop you from going. Squeeze in on the steps and spend time gazing at a true wonder. Enjoy watching the people too. The fountain area draws a diverse crowd of people.
Before you leave you must perform one ritual. With you back to the fountain, toss a coin over your shoulder. According to legend, this assures your return to Rome. We have been back five times.

White marble of now, next to crumbling ancient brick of then.. Rome is just layered with history.
Moab, Utah is a paradise! I think it has something for just about anyone. Great outdoor activities abound! You can raft down the mighty Colorado and Green Rivers, hike in the red rock canyons or in the beautiful Manti La Sal Forest, repel, go fishing, mountain bike on world class trails, or just take a simple walk in some of the most unique and breath taking areas on earth.
You can't beat the weather. If you love the heat - the summers in Moab bring it. Summer temps can top 110 F. However, escape from the heat is only a short drive up the La Sal Mountain Loop Road, where temperatures can be up to 30 degrees cooler.
Moab and the surrounding area is historically and geographically rich with ancient Pueblo/Anasazi dwellings and cliff art to modern Native American cultural influences. The unique geography has drawn movie producers, including Stephen Spielberg and are a draw for amture and professional photographers alike. You can'f find many places that are blessed with as many state and national parks, forests, and heritage sites! Cuisine and shopping opportunities are enriched by the many ethnic and cultural influences in the area. Moab even had a hand in the Cold War (as a uranium mining center - no worries, no enriched uranium and the mills have been closed for many years).

It's cold outside and it's snowing somewhere. It brings a special mood: this magic time of Christmas when everybody wants something special, some special memories...
The last Christmas came to my mind and put a smile on my face. It was in Scotland...
A lot of people would say that the best place to spend this holiday is some sunny country with plenty of tasty coctails. I made
another choice - Highlands.
It's possible to save a lot of cash if you choose serviced apartments to rent or premier cottages. I used Highland Club company (it is a part-business of Cottages and Castles CO http://cottages-and-castles.co.uk/ and http://www.the-highland-club.co.uk/). There is a place called Scriptorium, Fort Augustus. I attached some photos, so you can look at this magnificent Scottish castle. Actually it was St Benedict's Abbey and changed for a living area later.
When you go inside, it just rocks: wooden ceilings, stained-glass windows - a feeling of luxury ancient place..
It was a bit more expensive than I was expecting, but not more than 400 pounds a w
eek. If you choose a weekend only, you pay just 120 pounds which is worth of spend romantic time with a person you like :)![]()
Last photo was taken in the summer time, sorry :) My pc crashed so I had a small time to save some info. Well, the best photos and memories I have in my mind ;)
The ancient castle in Albania was also used as a weapons storehouse. The eerily lit entranceway gives you the strange feeling of a mix between 13th Century Kings and 20th century tanks.
This city is a world heritage site. It is 900 years old
These were the ruins directly across from the Colosseum.

View of the Great Pyramid from the balcony of our room at the Mena House Oberoi Hotel in Giza, Egypt. This was the view we got our first night there and even after the long flight from Abu Simbel to Cairo, we still got excited the second we saw this Wonder of the World, both ancient and modern.
