Graycliff Hotel pool Graycliff Hotel pool
- From: gmaso
-
Description:
The Graycliff is not exactly a Budget Travel type property but rather a 5 star property. The pool area is beautifully landscaped and the pool is hand-painted. There is also a smaller pool which appears to be blue at first glance but the tiles are iridescent; beautiful.
Expensive but beautifully landscaped throughout and with one of the best restaurants (5 star--coats required) in Nassau. The hotel also houses a pizzeria (great pizza), a South American style restaurant, a cigar factory, and a chocolatier. Everyone who was anyone has stayed here over the years; Lord Montbatten, Al Capone, The Beatles, Churchill, and of course, Capt. John Howard Graysmith, a pirate and privateer who built the house which is now part of Graycliff. A nice splurge and quite different from most of the tourist hotels of Nassau.

Description:
The Graycliff is not exactly a Budget Travel type property but rather a five star property. Expensive but beautifully landscaped and with one of the best restaurants (5 star--coat required) in Nassau. The hotel also houses a pizzeria (very good), cigar factory, and chocolatier as well as a Brazilian style restaurant.
And the wine cellar has the third largest collection of wines in the world; some 270,000 bottles ranging in price from $40-$200,000. Although we were guests at the hotel we were initially denied admission to the wine cellar because we were dressed as shown in this photo of the dining area. Coats are required and shorts and sandals are verbotten.

$2,000,000 wine rack at Graycl $2,000,000 wine rack at Graycliff Hotel
- From: gmaso
-
Description:
The Graycliff is not exactly a Budget Travel type property. Beneath the main restaurant is a wine cellar containing some 270,000 bottles of wine; the 3rd largest wine collection in the world. This particular wine rack contains about 400 bottles, none of which cost less than $5000. Directly across from this rack is a single bottle of wine from 1727 and available for a mere $200,000.
The wine cellar is a former prison dating from 1776 or before and used by the US Navy when it occupied Nassau during the Revolutionary War.

Never Say Never Again Bar Never Say Never Again Bar
- From: gmaso
-
Description:
Colleen at the Never Say Never Again Bar at the Hilton British Colonial Beach Resort (a Best Western at the time). This is where Fatima Blush waterskied up to James Bond in the movie, Never Say Never Again, drenching him and his martini--of course. Never Say Never Again was an unofficial Bond movie and the title referred to Sean Connery's statement several years earlier that he would never play James Bond again; not a quote from the book.
The bar no longer exists. Such blasphemy.
