  • National Park Safari Experienc National Park Safari Experiences within Sri Lanka

    • From: tailormadeholidays
    • Description:

Sri Lanka has a beautifully diverse environment, with landscapes of rolling green hills, tea plantations, sandy coastlines and jungle roaming with wild life. It’s in this way that Sri Lanka holidays can provide a variety of experiences to tourists, with a choice in locations depending on holiday desires.

      Yala National Park

The exotic creatures of National Parks like Yala are especially exciting, and put guests right at the heart of the country’s unspoilt nature. Such a setting is not only incredibly serene, but also exciting through the Sri Lanka safari excursions that can be enjoyed. A tour guide can take tourists through the wilderness in a land rover, providing information on various species and their behaviour, while also stopping to allow those on board to take as many pictures as they want.

Yala is especially well known for being the best place to see leopards, as well as elephants, crocodiles, deer, wild boars and a plethora of fascinating bird species. There’s a sense of delving into the unknown on one of these tours, as you never quite know what you’re going to be lucky enough to see.

Both the Cinnamon Wild Yala and Chaaya Wild Yala are well known for being luxurious and comfortable places to stay, with architecture that resembles the environment and in turn casts a warm ambience amongst the quiet greenery that it sits amongst. Those staying are sure to feel like they’re completely shut off from the rush of the rest of the world, able to relax and take in the sights.

  • Philipsburg Courthouse Philipsburg Courthouse

    • From: gmaso
    • Description:

Philipsburg is a fairly nice town compared to many Caribbean ports. It was definitely cleaner than some port towns. Often filled with cruise ships (there were 5 while we were there) we still didn't find the crowds overwhelming. The town has both upscale and junky tourist shopping, even a crafts market. It should be noted that while you can and should haggle at the crafts market, the various sellers seem to have agreed on the lowest price anuy of them will offer. Everytime one vendor offered my wife a price lower than she had found at any of the other vendors, the vendor would look around and lower her voice.

The boardwalk is filled with hotels and restuarant/bars catering to the tourists but generall reasonably priced and the food wasn't bad. The ocean side of the boardwalk was a broad beach with a marina and the cruise ships to one side. A very pleasant walk with a quaint courthouse just a block off the boardwalk.

    • Description:

Watching the planes, especially the large airliners, at Maho Beach at the end of Princess Juliana International Airport in St. Maarten is fascinating even for non-aviation buffs. The airport is used by international carriers, inter-island lines, and private planes so the variety of planes is unending.  Probably the best place to watch is from the Sunset Beach Bar which caters to those who want to watch. It can store your luggage while you wait, has continual cab service even to the cruise ships on the other side of the island and it's hambuergers and drinks are surprisingly reasonably priced. They even print the arrival times and type of aircraft on a black board and the bar tenders have schedules. Some of the pilots, even on the smaller planes, seem to try to come in particularly low to give the crowd a thrill. Eveyone really wants to see the Air France 747 come in and especially take-off. People, for some reason, like to get sand blasted as the larger planes turn with their tails right at the fence and rev up their engines prior to take-off.
