Top Biking Adventures in Vietn Top Biking Adventures in Vietnam

Description:As a country with every terrain imaginable, Vietnam offers a memorable bicycling adventure for any and all peddlers, regardless of experience or condition. The flat expanse of the Mekong Delta grows to rugged mountains in the central expanse and then blends into the widest variety of difficulty north near Hanoi.Traffic and Bicycle LawsAlong with standard laws like not causing traffic problems by racing or zigzagging, Vietnam has few laws targeted specifically toward the bicyclist. It is important to remember not to carry cumbersome loads, carry children over age seven with you or ride more than two abreast. No sort of helmet or lighting is required, but bicyclists are not allowed to ride with open umbrellas. One can only guess what happened to make this law.Common TripsFor those interested in adventure and active trips, there are some routes that will take you through and explore the backcountry while providing some modicum of modern amenities. ACTIVETRAVEL ASIA_one of the travel companies offering cycling tours in Indochina_ is received good reviews of adventure travelers.
.jpg)
Biking Mekong Delta The easiest of these is around the Mekong Delta. With a terrain nearly devoid of any rise, these trips are easier, but by no means less scenic, than the others. Traveling through the expanse of rice paddies dotted with the occasional copse of trees, the rider will be joined by children cycling to or from school or women returning from the market. People in the villages will be pleasantly surprised to see a foreigner riding into town and a circuit from Ho Chi Minh to any of the surrounding villages is an easy ride. With the flat terrain and abundance of villages it is easy to take a trip of any length, whether only a day or two weeks, a rider can tour without backtracking..jpg)
Biking Mai chau, Hoa Binh province The northern area allows for more wooded scenery while still allowing for easier trips. For the more adventurous, the northern area provides a greater degree of difficulty through the hills surrounding Hanoi. This trip offers a great opportunity to see the two area of outstanding nature beauty; the North West highlands of Mai Chau and the limestone mountains of Ninh Binh. Biking is a great way to see this fascinating and visually stunning part of Vietnam, offering both physical activity and the unique opportunity to observe a way of life that has changed little over the centuries. As we ride in Mai Chau we encounter Muong and White Thai minorities and are guests in their traditional stilt houses allowing us to see firsthand how these minority peoples live. In Ninh Binh we explore the beauty of “Halong Bay on the rice fields” on bikes.
Biking Ho Chi Minh trail A new trip for the adventurous would be along the historical Ho Chi Minh trail. The so-called Ho Chi Minh Trail is one of the most renowned legends of the American War. The complicated road system winds along the Truong Son Range, which that facilitated movement of soldiers and war supplies from North Vietnam to battlefields in South Vietnam. Now the historic trail is being turned into a highway and hotels and towns are springing up speedily beside it. The route is incredibly beautiful with new mountain views around every corner, very little traffic, and virtually no tourists.WeatherWeather in Southeast Asia is a big consideration and it is recommended to go from Late September to December or March to late May. The weather in the southern area of Vietnam stays warm and humid averaging 26°C with its rainy season from June to September. BE WARNED: Vietnam sees monsoonal rains starting in June, peaking in August and tapering down in September. This season varies depending on location; Hanoi in the north generally has a rainy season that peaks earlier while Ho Chi Minh City may not see its rains slack until early October. Vietnam, especially central Vietnam, often floods and can hold up a trip for a week before the waters recede. The hot season will see temperatures averaging 30°C, with the south staying warm all year round and the north seeing winter trends averaging 15°C. Depending on the time of year, it would be advisable to take a jacket to keep off the chill, especially if riding in the highlands, and a hat to protect against the sun.Other ConsiderationsVisas must be applied for at least six months prior to entry date. Tourist visas are granted for one month, but may be extended after arrival in Vietnam, and only allow one entry into the country. Tourists must fill out arrival/departure papers and declaration papers, keeping both with the passport at all times. It is also recommended having a few extra passport-size photos with you as local authorities may request these and it is always a good idea to stay on the good side of authorities. With over two-thirds of its roads unpaved and those paved roads sporting an abundance of potholes, the road conditions almost require a mountain bike. The lush landscapes and warm hospitality provide anyone with a good biking tour of Vietnam. Take the time to look around and smell the proverbial “roses”. - Blog post

Discovering Pu Luong Natural R Discovering Pu Luong Natural Reserve
- From: activetravelasia
-
Description:
The houses-on-stilts nestled between the mountains, the yellow terraced fields and green primitive forests., white cloud around…making a natural and wild picture dream. That is scenery you may see when arriving Nature Reserve (NR) Pu Luong.
Located in the two districts of Quan Hoa and Ba Thuoc in the northwestern area of Thanh Hoa Province, Pu Luong Natural Reserve has preserved a primitive landscape and plentiful and diversified flora and fauna. With the above natural values, it has now become a fascinating destination for those who love to discover the beauty of nature.
Pu Luong Natural Reserve, covering an area of 17,662ha, is the largest low area of limestone mountain forests left in the north of Vietnam with three major forest types: thick forests on low land and low mountains; forests on limestone mountains and floristic compositions of bamboos, Neohouzeaua and bushes.
According to the statistics of Pu Luong Nature Reserve’s Management Board, the reserve has 1,109 species of vascular plants, under 447 branches and 152 families. There are 42 special-use varieties of plants of Vietnam and four species listed in the World’s Red Book. Furthermore, it is the place where there is the second largest population of Vooc mong trang (Trachypithecus delacouri) in Vietnam with 31-38 individuals, after Van Long Nature Reserve in Ninh Binh Province.
In Pu luong, tourists have different choices for their tours, such as discovering the beauty of the natural landscape, ecological forests with plentiful fauna and flora or learning the simple and interesting customs and habits of the Thai and Muong people.
During their trip, tourists can see immense terraced fields and learn the traditional farming methods of the ethnic people or discover mysterious caves in Hang and Kho Muong Hamlets. One of the destinations that tourists should not miss is Hieu Hamlet. Following a path, not far from Pho Doan Town, tourists can see many water wheels, a typical tool of the Thai people. After crossing over a suspension bridge and climbing a slope, tourists finally arrive in the place where two waterfalls rush noisily. From afar, tourists can hear the rumbling sound of these waterfalls. Here, small branches of a stream run around the hamlet, through houses-on-stilts at the foot of staircases, to paddy fields and then merge into two grandiose waterfalls.
After a day discovering Pu Luong, tourists can stay in airy and spacious houses-on-stilts of the local ethnic people. It is a form of eco-community tours that has strongly developed in the locality. The tours are held by the local people based on nature and culture with the aim of improving the living standards and protecting the environment. Sitting near the fire, both the host and the tourists can enjoy delicious dishes, such as Com lam (sticky rice cooked on bamboo tubes) and a salad of banana inflorescence. They can drink Can wine and enjoy traditional dances and songs of the ethnic people.
Arriving in Pu Luong Nature Reserve where there are immense green forests and green terraced fields, tourists seem to be lost in a valley, completely separated from the outside world, with many mysteries expecting to be discovered.
With many foreign tourists, Pu Luong Nature Reserve is the interesting ideal for trekking trips or cycling options. Biking in Pu Luong is one of the best ways to discover the natural beauty of the region and exotic culture of minority groups.

Best Eco- tours ever!!!!!!!!!! Best Eco- tours ever!!!!!!!!!!

Description:
Hi friends:
Stressed about the bad economy?. Be trapped in a crowded and noisy city?. Want to stay away from a boring life?. You need a vacation!.
Why not only get your very own photo of three of the last untouched corners of Vietnam, Pu Luong, Ba Be National Park and Ngoc Son Ngo Luong Natural Reserves, but also fulfill your responsibility to natural areas?.
Pu Luong Natural Reverse (Pù Luông) might suggest something of a secret garden of millions of years created by two mountains running parallely towards northwest-southeast. Instead of getting some sleep on a well-equipped and luxurious hotel, sleeping over at eco accommodation providers’ traditional houses should be thought of. It is absolutely true to note that none of travelers are not captivated by a 360-degree view over diversified natural landscapes when they climb to the highest point with the evaluation of 1700 m.
Moving on to the second must-see travel destination, Ngoc Son-Ngo Luong (Ngọc Sơn-Ngổ Lương), is located in the northern region of Vietnam with breakthtaking scenery. Easily accessible by car, great wildlife viewing is not out of travelers’ hands. It is for sure to say that you will have 24 amazing hours with a range of community-based activities such as rafting on charming rivers flowing through a forest, having the most memorable Thais-style dining experience rather than a nine-course tasting one with.
For sightseers, perhaps it is too enough to make them remember it over and over. So, how any travelers can explore part of Vietnam’s hidden beauty in terms of way which was is different from others?.
All you have to do is to join our tourism network_VCBET, Vietnam Community-Based Ecotourism Network, whereby you can get your responsible one-and-only trip done in relation to the local community. On the one hand, our carefully designed tourism products are good value for money as to participants. On the other hand, it is right your actions taken on minimizing the negative impact of tourism on where you had set your foot, providing direct financial benefits to hosts, and contributing to have a world of better tomorrow.
That’s exactly what our eco-tours and your journey ahead are all about.
And believe it or not, once you make a snap decision getting involved our eco-tours, you will have that “aha” moment…

Description:Vietnam is a frontier destination and a motorbike ride on a motorcycle through its rugged mountains is an unparalleled adventure. Be amongst the first to explore a land steeped in natural beauty and rich cultural heritage and experience face-to-the-wind just what this wonderful country has to offer.Riding in Vietnam is not for the feint of heart. It has the second highest rate of traffic fatalities in the world and is the second most dangerous place on earth for motorcyclists, just after India. There are approximately 40 traffic fatalities per day in the country. The way people ride in Vietnam is very different from yours : no rules! To ensure an authentic taste, make sure to ignore any Traffic Rules you know. This should help to achieve a fine balance between two-wheeled fun, fine roads, beautiful landscapes and complete and utter chaos.1. Do and don'tThese following rules are practical and informal:Do:- The traffic looks very crazy at first, but it’s not that bad. It’s like a river and when you are in it you have to flow. First rule is no rules.- Larger vehicles have right of way. Avoid anything bigger than you and slow down.- Use signal and the most important thing is the horn. People don’t care about the noise of horns.- Use both brakes at the same time with more back brake as if you apply more front brake it slips- Our guides were born and grow up in Vietnam, so they understand Vietnamese traffic. Follow the guide, ride behind him for safety.Do not:- Speed limit in Vietnam is very low (25-80km/h). Don’t break the speed limit.- Don’t ride on one wheel (free wheelie).- Animals are everywhere in the country or mountain roads. Dogs and chickens are the most then come water buffaloes, cows, pigs and horses…If you kill a dog or a chicken don’t stop, cry and feel sorry, it’s not your fault. Slow down and don’t hit water buffaloes, cows, pigs and horses, simply they are too big!- Do not drink and drive.Important:- Be careful with spilt oil from trucks and buses at curves on the mountain roads, extremely slippery and we have had at least four small accidents related to this matter.- Your guide leads the group and he gives you hand/body language if there are big pot holes, trucks, blind curves or any danger. He can see you in the mirrors and if you want to stop use the signal or simply pull off but be careful with riders behind you. If you got lost, just stop and wait for someone to find you or call us.- If the police stop you (this rarely happens), your guide will not come back. He will wait for you, out of sight up the road. Just keep talking English or whatever you want and they’ll soon give up and let you go in less than five minutes.- If a bike is technically broken, we will replace with the same type of bike or the next available model.2. What to bring:You don’t need to bring everything with you on the trip, pack essential things in a small bag (medium size, max 10kg) and put it on the back of the bike. Here are items we suggest for motorcycle touring:- Clothing: rain gloves, Wellington boots (rubber boots for rainy season from April to September), summer gloves, balaclava, T-shirts, socks & underwear, long sleeved shirts, turtleneck shirts, extra jeans, a light jacket, leather chaps, zip-lock bags, riding boots, bandannas, sunglasses, goggles, and contact lens solution.- Personal items: basic toiletries, emergency cash, sunscreen and earplugs.- Emergency items: a first aid kit, emergency contact number, list medical conditions, list medications, a flashlight, chargers and a duct tape.- Miscellaneous: a small towel, a bath towel, trash bags, camera and cargo net…and probably some gifts for children.3. Group SizeThe maximum group size for rides in the north is from 5 to 8 people per group (limited to 6 motorcycles), riders or pillion passengers. This will enhance your experience and ensure a high degree of personal attention. Rides down the Ho Chi Minh Trail, however, can accommodate much larger groups because we use a support vehicle at your request (extra fees applied). Small groups enable us to trek into remote areas with minimal intrusion to the local cultures. Riding in a large convoy with all the inherent complications and delays is just not our way.The best group size is from three to four riders, not too many and not too little. More people means more fun but too big a group means less information the guide can provide as he needs to take care of your safety. Our largest group ever was 12 riders but we divided into two groups and two guides came on the trip.Recommended Vietnam motorcycling tours by ACTIVETRAVEL ASIA- Motorcycling Northwestern TrailsDiscover Vietnam’s rugged and scenic northwest and its people first hand. By taking to the roads and riding from the capital Hanoito the remote area of the northwest we can see life as it truly is for the Vietnamese. Ha Long Bay Ha Long Bay

Description:
Ha Long Bay (Vietnamese: Vịnh Hạ Long,
listen, literally: "descending dragon bay") is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and a popular travel destination, located in Quang Ninh province, Vietnam. Administratively, the bay belongs to Hạ Long City, Cẩm Phả town, and part of Van Don district. The bay features thousands of limestone karsts and isles in various sizes and shapes. Ha Long Bay is a center of a larger zone which includes Bái Tử Long bay to the northeast, and Cát Bà islands to the southwest. These larger zones share similar geological, geographical, geomorphological, climate, and cultural characters.Ha Long Bay has an area of around 1,553 km2, including 1,960–2,000 islets, most of which are limestone. The core of the bay has an area of 334 km2 with a high density of 775 islets.[1] The limestone in this bay has gone through 500 million years of formation in different conditions and environments. The evolution of the karst in this bay has taken 20 million years under the impact of the tropical wet climate.[2] The geo-diversity of the environment in the area has created biodiversity, including a tropical evergreen biosystem, oceanic and sea shore biosystem.[3] Ha Long Bay is home to 14 endemic floral species[4] and 60 endemic faunal species.[5]
Historical research surveys have shown the presence of prehistorical human beings in this area tens of thousands years ago. The successive ancient cultures are the Soi Nhụ culture around 18,000–7000 BC, the Cái Bèo culture 7000–5000 BC[6] and the Hạ Long culture 5,000–3,500 years ago.[7] Hạ Long Bay also marked important events in thehistory of Vietnam with many artifacts found in Bài Thơ Mout, Đầu Gỗ Cave, Bãi Cháy.[7]
500 years ago, Nguyen Trai praised the beauty of Hạ Long Bay in his verse Lộ nhập Vân Đồn, in which he called it "rock wonder in the sky".[8] In 1962, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Vietnam listed Hạ Long Bay in the National Relics and Landscapes publication.[9] In 1994, the core zone of Hạ Long Bay was listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site according to criterion vii, and listed for a second time according to criterion viii.[1

The Fishermen of Halong Bay, V The Fishermen of Halong Bay, Vietnam
- From: indochinasails
-
Description:“We live in a wonderful world that is full of beauty, charm and adventure. There is no end to the adventures we can have if only we seek them with our eyes open.” – Jawaharial NehruMesmerizing panoramas of limestone karsts often covered with lush green vegetation. Adding to this backdrop was the ever present fishermen who live on these waters. We were never completely alone. The put-put of their engines was the first indicator.A single boat with Quonset hut and colorful flags passed by our junk oblivious to us watching.Oftentimes boats were rafted together. This was home for them and a way of life dating back generations. We notice a lone man in his boat tied to this grey ragged landscape collecting crustaceans. It is food for the table and to sell.A cultural and colorful highlight was visiting a floating village tucked along the jagged edge of karsts in a somewhat protected area from the winds. Consisting of 120 people, mostly families with children, they have been there since 1994 and encouraged by the government to fish these waters. They do so with nets as well as fish-farms. There are three other such floating villages scattered throughout Halong Bay and some quite large. Collectively, these fishermen supply seafood to all of Vietnam, particularly Hanoi. In addition, they are developing markets for farm-raised sea grasses, sea weed, and shrimp.Houses were painted in cheerful colors and each appeared to have a resident watch dog. Roosters crowed.Generators provide electricity for the floating village and fresh water is brought in from the mainland and stored in tanks. We were taken to the community building to meet the village elder, his family and to have tea. The structure also serves as a school while efforts are being made to replace the one that was destroyed in a typhoon. The government provides a teacher, but he or she needs to be married, which reflects the cultural morays. Older children who wish to further their education often live on the mainland with a relative.Managing tourism is of importance. This village has a partnership with several junk touring companies. Only the smaller vessels can approach this particular floating village, which was a cultural bonus for us. Instead of selling us trinkets or local crafts, we were taken on small boat excursions. There were four couples in our group and each couple was assigned to a row boat made from a woven reed basket. Our rower was a girl named Win who was shy and had such a lovely smile. By tipping these rowers we are told this is a “workable” situation for tourists and the village. I had to agree. These women worked hard at what they were doing. An extra cultural treat for Ron and I was Duc, our guide, joined our little boat as well as the village chief’s son and niece. It was fun listening to the children chatter away and Duc translate.Laughing at each other in our conical hats was a reminder that we were acting the tourist part. There was one particular area that Duc wanted us to see, but the lead rower could not get her boat through because of the current. We weren't disappointed. The beauty around us was worth this experience of being rowed in a basket.Once back on the junk, the long term sustainability of these floating villages was discussed. There is a balance between the fishermen, tourism, and the fragile eco-system which can change because of industrial run off, storms affecting fishing and increasing pollution. Halong Bay is a beautiful natural wonder. Protection of these waters while preserving a cultural way of life is an ongoing challenge.Source: onthegowithlynneFor more information about Halong Bay cruise, please refer: http://www.indochinasails.com/

Halong Bay‘s sunset praised on Halong Bay‘s sunset praised on CNN
- From: indochinasails

Description:Thanks to its unique beauty, Halong Bay was selected as one of Asia’s top five tropical island paradises which possess the most beautiful sunset.
With this spirit of maritime adventure in mind, CNN asked Herman Ho, Boat Asia 2012 managing director, and Stuart McDonald, founder and editor of Asian travel website, travelfish.org, to give the lowdown on Southeast Asia's most spectacular coastal spots. Vietnam’s Halong Bay was selected in the list of top five tropical island paradises.
Halong Bay in northwestern Vietnam is one of the most stunning boating destinations anywhere in the world, says McDonald.
Comprising a vast coastal waterway of roughly 2,000 islands spread over an area of 1,500 square kilometers, carving out your own sailing space shouldn't be too much of a problem. While tranquil waters year round make sure going for a swim is always a pleasure.
The mysterious limestone caves on Halong Bay's bigger islands and the "incredible sunsets" meanwhile are two sights not to be missed, advises McDonald.
Other tropical island paradises includes Indonesia’s Anambas islands, Thailand’s Koh Chang, Malaysia’s Langkawi and Thailand’s Similan Islands.

The famous Humble Administrato The famous Humble Administrator's Garden in Suzhou
- From: x123456

Description:
At 7:30 in the early morning after our breakfast in our hotel, we went to the Humble Administrator's Garden in Suzhou by walk. At the entrance, a lot of people were staying in line, buying tickets which are sold at the price of RMB 50. we three people just visit the Humble Administrator's Garden as an individual tour. If you are interested in the history of ancient buildings or classical beauty of architectures in China, you can go travel in China.
The Humble Administrator's Garden, as a symbol in the gardens located in the south regions of the Yangtze River, is the largest classical garden in Suzhou, with landscapes. It was a residence that belonged to a poet in the Tang Dynasty, and a temple in the Yuan Dynasty. In the Ming Dynasty 1509, a successful candidate in the highest imperial examinations Koji and Censor Wangxiancheng bought this garden when they lived in seclusion, and employed a famous painter, and a designer who graduated from Wu School, to let them work together to decorate the garden and design the blueprint. It took 16 years when it’s completed. The garden is a classical and luxurious one, with a very special layout. It’s very famous in Suzhou.
In the Humble Administrator's Garden, there are three separate gardens. In the east area is the GuiYuanTian Garden where there are pinewoods, lawns, Tianquan Pavilion, a souvenir shop and so on. What’s more, we have West Garden. There is a very big meandering pool that is jointed with a bigger one near the central area of the garden. In the middle of the garden is the main scenic spot. Yuanxiangtang is the only main ancient building in the Humble Administrator's Garden, surrounded by all kinds of beautiful landscapes. It was built in the Qing Dynasty with bluestones, facing towards water, and installed with French windows through which you are able to see scenery around it. The interior looks very elegant, with a horizontal inscribed board hanged over in the middle on which the three words Yuanxiangyang were written by a great write Wenzhengming. In the south of the building, there are small pools, rockeries, and bamboo forests, and in the north, there is a wide terrace connected with a lotus pond. Whenever summer comes, water lilies will be in full bloom and when wind blows, their faint scent can be smelled.

An exciting tour in Guilin Chi An exciting tour in Guilin China
- From: x123456
-
Description:
Having reserved flight tickets a few days ago and made a plan of travel routes, I and some of my friends came to Longsheng County in Guilin by flight. We paid a visit to the scenic area mainly for hot spring bathing, which is said very famous across the country. After 2 hours’ drive, we arrived at Longshen. Putting on bathing suits, we began enjoying hot spring bathing. In the hot spring bathing pool, there are only four of us, probably because it’s too early in the morning. However, we enjoyed the hot spring bathing so much that we didn’t even realized how fast time had gone, for it’s already lunch time. As soon as we put on our clothes, we went to a restaurant nearby to have lunch.
In the morning on the next day, we were waken up by a birdcall. I looked out of the window, seeing the ground was wet, and it must have rained last night. The air was very fresh outside, so four of us decided to get some fresh air. At 9 am, the driver picked us up and we were loath to leave longshen, one of the famous scenic areas of China.
After the next 3 hours’ drive, we arrived at Guilin. Having had lunch, we began visiting the scenic spot, Two Rivers and Four Lakes, by sightseeing ship. Two rivers include Lijiang River and Peach Blossom River and four lakes the RongHu Lake, SanHu Lake, GuiHu Lake, and MuLong Lake. During the sightseeing tour of the one and half hour, we were able to have a good view of the beautiful scenic spots of Guilin, such as Elephant Trunk Hill, Diecai Hill, Fubo Hill and so on. Solitary Beauty Peak, a historical and cultural attraction in the scenic area of Jingjiang Princes City witnessed the change of Guilin history. What was excited is that we four people climbed it up.
Visiting Lijiang scenery on Lijiang River is a highlight. We were actually wondering whether we should do that by bamboo raft or by cruise ship. Some of the advantages of visiting Lijiang landscapes by bamboo raft is that we would be able to see the most beautiful scenery of Lijiang River on its both banks, and also that we were allowed to have some food on the bamboo raft we brought, as we enjoyed its scenery without being disturbed. So we made our decision to take bamboo raft to visit Lijiang River.
When night fell, our tour guide showed us to a restaurant where there are dishes like bamboo chicken, bamboo rice, and fish cooked in the casserole. Bamboo chicken tasted very delicious, cooked with slow fire in bamboo tubes, and fish also tasted good. After dinner, we went back to our hotels to get some sleep. This trip to Guilin ended like that.
If you like, you can go travel in China to visit those enchanting landscapes by yourself.
