Vacation Itinerary - Puerto R Vacation Itinerary - Puerto Rico
- From: travowl

Description:
Dear Diary,
The awesomeness that is 'US' :P
EEEEEEEEE!! I am super excited!! Our trip to Puerto Rico gets closer and closer every day. Just three more weeks and I am off to a week of sun, sand and hopefully bikinis (still working on that.) The fact the DJ cooks fucking amazing food doesn’t help me in losing weight in any way. Anyways, this will be an epic trip. We are going snorkeling, scuba-diving, zip lining and to top it off, we are camping out on the beach. Imaging waking up listening to the waves hitting the shores in the morning with the cool wind making whoosh whoosh noises.. Ahhhhh..blisss..Ohh that reminds me..I need to pack my yoga mat. Looking forward to do some beach yoga.
I had to time this trip very precisely. With my PTO of 4 days and a national holiday (Good Friday) this will be a 9 day long trip. Also to maximize our stay there, I booked tickets late evening Friday and late morning Sunday. So here is the itinerary:
Friday 22nd March – Flight out of San Antonio at 7pm and will reach San Juan at 5 am the next morning.
Saturday 23rd March – Land at San Juan and pick up rental car and drive to Luquillo Beach to set up camp. Our goal for this day is to just relax and do some snorkeling. Based on my online research Luquillo Beach is apparently a very good beach to snorkel since the water isn’t too rough.
Sunday 24th March – Visit El Yunque rain forest and Zip line. Explore the forest as much as we can. Take some awesome pics and Zip Line through the trees.
Monday 25th March – Take the ferry from Fajardo to Culebra beach and go scuba diving at Flamenco Beach. The company that comes highly recommended is Culebra Divers. Spend the day scuba diving and at the beach and head back to town to eat lunch at Barbara- Rosa’s. In the evening take ferry back to Fajardo and drive back to Luquillo Beach.
Tuesday 26th March – Pack up camp and leave for Ponce. Spend the day there and drive to Lajas in the afternoon and at night drive and set up camp at Anasco.
Wednesday 27th March – Drive to Cumuy Cave and take the tour and in the afternoon take the trip to Arecibo.
Thursday 28th March – Pack up camp at Anasco and drive back to San Juan. Explore San Juan and check into hotel (Yes, we did take 2 nights hotel since we wanted to wine and dine for the actual day of our anniversary)
FRIDAY 29TH MARCH – ANNIVERSARY DAY!! Spend time together J
Saturday 30th March – Check out of hotel and drive to Fajardo. Explore Fajardo during the day and take the bio bay kayak trip in the evening. Return to San Juan airport at night and drop off the car and take flight back to San Antonio L
Sunday 31st March – Flight back to San Antonio.
Yes, I know I skipped the the mountains in this trip but we still have 3 more weeks to plan this out. Maybe we will squeeze it in somehow, but as of now here is the plan. And with flight, hotel, car and our expenses, this trip shouldn't cross our budget of $3000. Lets see if we can make it :)
Safe travels!!

A trip in Dali A trip in Dali
- From: x123456
-
Description:
The autonomous prefecture of Dali which is located in Yunnan Province is an undeveloped and extensive territory in the southwestern part of China, with an area of 29459 square meters, abundant natural resources, beautiful landscapes, and mild climate.
It was in March 2011, when I went to Kunming in Yunnan Province to live. One day, all of sudden, one ideal came across my mind that I would like to visit Dali. I didn’t know why I love it more than Lijiang. Maybe that’s because the air there is much more fresh and there are less busyness and noise. What’s more, Dali is famous for its fresh air and mild climate.
In the evening on Friday in March 25th 2011, I took a train to Dali, where I spent a week travelling and I had a lot of fun during the short trip.It would be better to go to Dali in March if you like, because it often rains from May to October and also a lot of traditional events of Bai ethnic groups are normally held there in March.
Having spent a night on the train, I woke up at dawn in the next morning and arrived at the train station of Dali. I had reserved a less expensive hotel on the Internet after checking out prices. It’s a two-floored hotel where it’s 50 Yuan for a night, there are individual bathrooms, 24 hours’ hot water service and internet access are provided. On the second floor, you are able to overlook ancient towns of Dali.
On the first day, I went to Tianlongbabu Studio City, a scenic area which is situated at a holiday resort of the provincial level. It’s composed of three parts, including the Dali scenic spot where you are able to see Dali Street, Dali Palace, and Zhennan Prince City, Liao scenic spot where there is an ancient gate, and Xixia Palace’s scenic spot. What’s more, you can ask someone to take a picture of you who wear costumes
After that, I visited Zhangjia Garden. It’s a newly-developed scenic spot where facilities and buildings are all brand-new. As a matter of fact, it’s worth a visit.
Having entered Zhangjia Garden, I watched singing and dancing performances a little bit. And a kind of famous tea from Dali can be tasted for free and it’s called Sandao Tea. while you are visiting, it’s easy to get lost in the garden, where courtyards are very delicate and there are all kinds of flowers, most of which are rare. In addition, it’s called the First Garden of Yunnan surrounded by camellia, rhododendron, and lakes.
Last, having visited some scenic spots in Dali, I went back to the Ancient Town of Dali to hang about at the West Street where the streets all look similar and there are many shops.
The trip in Dali ended like that. Although I went to a lot of scenic spots to visit, I didn’t feel any tired.

El Matador State Beach in Mali El Matador State Beach in Malibu, California
- From: Funkidivagirl
-
Description:
If you are ever near Malibu, you MUST go to this beach. It’s gorgeous and so different than your normal beach. We felt like we were on an adventure, like part of The Goonies.
Here are a few tips to make your time on El Matador State Beach enjoyable and worth the adventure:
- Bring your own food and drinks or stop by Point Dume Village on the way; there is a Subway and Pavillions grocery store in the shopping center.
- The parking lot is tiny and fills quickly. You can park on PCH, but will have to cross the busy highway; I don’t recommend doing that, especially with children. Hopefully you’ll get lucky and see someone coming out of the parking lot. And hopefully they will be kind and give you their parking ticket to put on your dashboard. Someone did that for us and we passed along the favor to someone else when we left. That $8 parking fee stretched to cover at least 3 cars.
- While you’re up there, be sure to pee. There is a porta-potty in the parking lot, but there are no facilities down on the beach. And it’s a loooooong climb back up.
- Do not wear flip-flops. The walk down to the beach covers some rocky terrain and there are not handrails all the way down. I wore Keens and felt good about that. Slipping and sliding all the way down and possibly careening over the edge would not have felt good.
- The seaweed can be out of control–along with the sand fleas that it attracts. It was in huge clumps when we were there, mostly right at the bottom of the stairs. The only way to the beach was to walk through it (or run through screaming, as I did). That’s another reason not to wear flip-flops, because it’s definitely yucky, stinky and gross; you do not want your feet touching that seaweed. My husband put our daughter on his back because she refused to walk through it. Be brave. Goonies never say die.
- There is no lifeguard on duty; the beach is very natural and rugged. Swim at your own risk and wear swim shoes. Besides the clumps of seaweed, the sand is pretty rough and the beach is narrow. Do I have to say it again?–Do not wear flip-flops!
- While there were families on the beach, there were plenty of couples canoodling as well. And as it got later in the evening, more came to watch the sunset toting dinner and coolers; it was definitely going to turn into a party. It’s best for families to come early and leave early. I heard it is an unofficial topless beach (because it’s so secluded), but I also heard that the police patrol regularly. I saw neither boobs nor bobbies when I was there, but just be aware.

Mexico Fun at the Grand Velas! Mexico Fun at the Grand Velas!
- From: ajjordan2

Description:
Sometimes we need a little luxury to supplement our budget travel…
I’ve seen the term, “luxury redefined” written in brochures, broadcasted on different websites to describe a wide array of products, services, and accommodations. However, the phrase never crept into my mind before visiting the Grand Velas resort in Riviera Nayarit, Mexico. The resort is a true, luxury all-inclusive resort. It stands in a class of its own; where most all-inclusive resorts offer complimentary room service, all-you-can-eat dining options, and bottomless alcoholic beverages, the Grand Velas takes it 10 steps further to create the first-rate service, fine dining, top shelf alcohol, and constant pampering that one would expect from a AAA five-diamond ranked property. The hotel contains one of the “Leading Spas of the World” (Spa Grand Velas Riviera
Nayarit) and the spa experience begins at check-in. I arrived at the resort Thursday evening, and within minutes, was treated to a 5-minute complementary neck massage in the lobby. The suites also contain spa-themed accents, such as plush bathrobes, his and her slippers, luxurious Gilchrest & Soames bath products, in-room Jacuzzi, and a private sauna (located in the presidential suites). According to the manager of the property, Rodolfo Gonzalez, “room service at the resort is referred to as “suite service” because of the vastness of the rooms (the suites are 900-1,000+ square feet and 95% have ocean views).
That evening, I had dinner at one of the hotel’s gourmet restaurants, Frida, named after the Mexican painter, Frida Kahlo. All of the hotel’s restaurants have ocean views, and present unsurpassed luxury, down to the cushioned purse stools. The neutral earth toned décor coupled with the Frida Kahlo recipe inscriptions on the wall offered a very Mediterranean feel. I sampled their six-course meal, some of which included the aguachile duo salmon and sea scallops, fresh tuna in chili seed crust, marinated duck breast in local honey, and the traditional lime pie.
During the trip, I participated in a margarita tasting in the lobby bar, which featured all of the specialty margaritas that Frida offers. Out of the 12 sampled, I favored the Peanuts Signature Margarita, the Cilantro Coriander Margarita, and Tamarind Mint Margarita. After dinner, I overindulged and ordered room service (their 24-hour menu includes prime
selections, such as grilled flanked steak, beef filet in black pepper sauce, mahi-mahi medallion, Hawaiian pizza, and coconut shrimp in mango and mint sauce).
Despite the level of luxury presented throughout the property, the resort is very welcoming towards kids and families. The resort offers activities such as karaoke, guitar band performances, fiestas, and there is also a kids and teen club available. Some of the exciting inclusive activities located at the resort are windsurfing, snorkeling, kayaking, cycling, tennis, aqua aerobics, boogie boards, as well as scuba diving demonstrations at the pool. There is also fitness center that offers exercise classes during the weekdays, such as Tae-Bo, Pilates, Hath yoga, Zumba, and Danza Polinesia. In the mornings, I either ordered room service or dined in their beachside restaurant, Azul.
The restaurant offers panoramic views of the Bahia de Banderas, and is open from 7am to 11pm. Cuisines offered are Mexican, Italian, Japanese, and Chinese, as well as grilled selections and seafood.
Friday evening, I dined at the Italian restaurant, Lucca. The interior is inspired by Roman design, and there was a live piano performance during dinner. The six course meal included items such as the Rustic Lucca style salad, poached artichoke carpaccio, tortelli in cherry tomato sauce, and baked zucchini.
The next morning, I experienced my much-anticipated spa treatment at the multiple
award-winning Spa Grand Velas Riviera Nayarit. I chose the Four Hand Samunprai Massage, which included two massage therapists using hot compressions, exotic herbs, and medicinal heat to sooth muscles and release tension. The spa’s design was very calming, adorned with flowers floating in water, neutral earth toned décor, and a large marbled wall with cascading water.
Before my massage, I was treated with the complimentary hour long Hydrotherapy Ritual. This started with a revitalizing shower, followed by a visit to the herbal steam room, sauna time, Jacuzzi soak, followed by a dip in the two-temperature lagoon, with a final multi-jet Swiss shower. Currently, the spa is offering a special of purchasing one of their specialty massages, and selecting another massage for only $10.
My last night at the Grand Velas was spent dining at the French cuisine restaurant, Piaf. The décor was tastefully elaborate with breathtaking avant garde chandeliers, coupled with live violin music. Some of the selections from the menu included the tri-color cream soup (pumpkin, tomato, pea), grilled Scottish salmon in Chardonnay sauce, and the chocolate moelleux with English crème figs. My personal favorite was the Bourguignonne escargots, which were expertly prepared in a creamy butter sauce. Besides the opportunity to overindulge in the resorts many premier food selections, the Grand Velas offers the ultimate luxury all-inclusive vacation. Take part in the many complimentary water sports and activities available, experience a massage in one of the Leading Spas of the World, and relax by the serene private beach and pool.

The bridge leads to the Royal Mile and has a fantastic story of its own.The greenery and paths you see coming up from the bottom lead to and from the Princes Street Gardens.
