  • Venice Houses

    • From: rschoeff
    • Description:

As we toured Venice we came across a group of people, students possibly, who were sitting in this small piazza and painting these houses.  The more I looked at the houses the more reasons I saw for capturing the scene.  The colors, the architecture, the flowers, the downspout fixtures all witnessed to Venice's beauty.  I didn't stay around long enough to see the finished watercolors but how could they be bad?

  • Flowers U.S.S. Arizona, Pearl

    • From: kabell4
    • Description:

The U.S.S. Arizona memorial at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii is a very somber place.  I wanted to capture an image that would show respect for all those who had died on that day.  Just taking a picture of the names on the wall was too static, and didn't give the impression I was seeking. I noticed many had left leis in memory of dead loved ones.  So I kneeled down to capture the flowers (representing the love of the living for those who had died), the wall of names (to honor the dead), the flag (to show they died in service to their country), and the window (representing the hope for peace).  I took the photo July 14, 2002 during our three week dream trip to Hawaii (it was our first visit to Hawaii, and Pearl Harbor was the first stop on our itinerary).

  • Spanish Steps

    • From: allaffordtravel
    • Description:

The Spanish Steps, or in Italian, Scalinata della Trinita dei Monti, start at the Piazza di Spagna and climb to the Trinita dei Monti church. These steps have been the subject of countless photographs, and travel posters. Conceived as a means to climb from the plaza to the church, these steps have become synonymous with Rome. The plaza contains the fabulous Barcaccia Fountain.

Visit the plaza, visit the steps, visit the church, and spend some time people watching. If you are fortunate enough to visit while the steps are decked out with flowers, you will truly see an incredible sight.

  • Flowers U.S. Cemetery, Normand

    • From: kabell4
    • Description:

During our two week dream trip to Paris, France, we paid a visit to the Normandy landing beaches, including the U.S. cemetery above Omaha Beach.  We were there June 7, 2003; the flowers were from the D-Day ceremonies held the previous day.  My Mother was walking towards me as I thought to bend down and take her picture from the viewpoint of the flowers.  My Father was a World War II veteran; he served in the Navy in the Pacific.  I was wondering whether or not my Mom was thinking about my Dad as she was walking along.

  • Desert Flowers

    • From: Buqo
    • Description:

Even in the most barren and desolate regions of Nevada, you can find beauty if you look for it.  We went down to Lake Mead to see how low the lake had gotten and went hiking in the hills around the lake when I spotted these desert daisies adding color to the harsh terrain.

  • Taormina - Flowers

    • From: shattman
    • Description:

One of the great surprises we had in our trip through Sicily was the lush vegetation and omnipresent flowers. I had an image of it as a rather dry, dusty and austere place. It was anything but--- and Taormina was a jewel.
