  • The Glacier of Claciers The Glacier of Claciers

    • From: jasonschwary
    • Description:
The Patagonia of Chile and Argentina has to be one of the most amazing places of pure nature that I have ever been. Everywhere you turn there is something truly amazing to see or experience. This glacier here, called Perito Moreno, is one of the cleanest, bluest masses of ice that exists today on planet Earth. It is said to be one of the only “advancing” glaciers in the world despite the global warming trend. One of the best times to visit the glaciers is during the day or two time period where the advancing glacier smashes into the rock bed below and massive portions of the glacier comes crashing into the water below. The sound and site is to be one memory to last a life time!

  • Mount Cook on New Zealand's So Mount Cook on New Zealand's South Island

    • From: janicekaym
    • Description:

This view of New Zealand's Mount Cook was visible from our little rental cottage. The family's vacation in December 2005 got even better when we boarded a small plane to fly over the glaciers and landed on one to walk around in the snow--and it was summer! This was taken with an automatic Fuji fine pix digital camera.

  • Alaska: Glaciers in Fall Color Alaska: Glaciers in Fall Colors

    • From: mbbondar
    • Description:

Our recent family trip to Alaska was a photographer's dream.  We had heard that Alaska was beautiful, but nothing prepared us for the expansiveness of the scenery and the profusion of wildlife we saw.  Bald Eagles soared along the coastline ... such a big surprise to us that we thought we imagined it at first.  The dove for fish and carried them back to their nests.  The Orca whales were only a few of those we saw on a whale watching trip from Juneau ... there were many of them along with humpback whales and sea lions. We expected the glaciers to be hard to reach and very, very cold.  This picture was taken near Juneau, just a little ways from a parking lot!  The beautiful colors heralded the coming fall, although it was only mid-August.  This lake was hidden by the nearby mountains, which reflect on its placid surface.  Another glacier is just visible in the rear righthand of the picture.  Finally, this vintage train through the tundra near Skagway was a lucky shot ... again, beautiful scenery showing fall beauty.  All of these were taken by non-expert, family photographers using affordable equipment.  .... This is a further testament to the expansive beauty and mutliple opportunities for a "photo moment" that Alaska offers.  Don't miss Alaska for a trip.

Traveling the Inside Passage of Alaska on a cruise ship, we were amazed at the color of the water.  The shades of green and aqua in the fjords and near the glaciers were particularly surprising.

  • Glacier at College Fjord Alask Glacier at College Fjord Alaska

    • From: chlost
    • Description:

Our ship was visiting College Fjord only in the very early morning our first morning on board.  So we faithfully dragged ourselves out of our warm bed at 5 AM so we could see the first glaciers of our cruise (it was still dark when we first got outside).  As the sun came up, it became well worth it as the sun pulled back the curtain on a wonderful display of nature's beauty. . . and the stewards came around with hot chocolate to warm us up too!

  • Super Blue Glacier! Super Blue Glacier!

    • From: jjjrs5
    • Description:

The Chilean fjords are spectacular.  And unlike other areas of the world, their glaciers are stable in size, probably due to the frigid Humboldt Current.  Some glaciers are actually growing.  All the glaciers we saw were VERY active with frequent calving.  The glaciers are MUCH bluer and much more active than ones we've seen elsewhere, particularly Alaska.
