    • Description:

Wabasha, Minn.. the oldest city on the Upper Mississippi River with all of today's amenities for an unforgettable vacation. This small community prides itself on customer service, no matter where you are or what you are doing. You will feel at home in this small town, where everybody knows your name (yes you know the familiar tune.. Cheers anyone?). Every business is owned by a local person who most likely works at the counter and can tell you anything you would ever want to know.

Surrounded by the Mississippi River and large bluff tops, Wabasha has something for everyone. Whether you are the adventurous type, or are in town for a romantic weekend, this town has it all. Year-round events and local festivals help give this small community a special feature that most large communities don't even have. From the Grumpy Old Men Festival (always last weekend in Feb.) to Riverboat Days (last weekend in July), to a Grumpy Mudder (like Tough Mudder, but no electrical shock) and fall festival called SeptOberfest.

Take a hike up the riverside bluffs, or check in with Turning Waters Bed, Breakfast & Adventure (www.turningwatersbandb.com) and take an excursion with Richie or Michael: Kayaking, Hiking, Biking, Snowshoeing, Snowkiting or Ice Fishing.

Not up for adventure? Bringing the kids? Need a pool? Then check out the AmericInn of Wabasha's recently fully updated accomodations (www.americinn.com/Hotels/MN/Wabasha). The AmericInn has its own specialty packages available year round and 14 beautifully themed suites.

Wabasha's most famous attraction is the National Eagle Center, located on the Mississippi River (www.nationaleaglecenter.org). Currently, the NEC hosts five live eagles and provides guests with three daily shows per day at 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. During the winter months, take an eagle viewing field trip and view eagles all around the area.

  • Planning Your Amazing Adventur Planning Your Amazing Adventure Holidays in Alaska

    • From: jamespattrick
    • Description:

Alaska is a vast state full of wilderness and potential adventures. From hiking to fishing to skiing, you are sure to find an adventure holiday that suits your needs and desires. Here are a few things to consider when planning an Alaskan holiday.

      Decide when to visit Alaska

Alaska's peak tourist season runs from about the middle of May through mid-September. The long days and warm temperatures make this a great time to go camping, hiking, bird watching and general sightseeing.

The flowers show up at the beginning of summer, so vacationers can enjoy nature in her full glory. Alaska's protected waters, rivers and lakes also offer you the great opportunity to go rafting or kayaking in a beautiful wilderness setting.

Summer is also the season of higher prices, however, with July being the absolute worst when it comes to cost. If you plan to go to Alaska during the peak tourist season, be sure to book well in advance to ensure you have the necessary lodgings.

The "shoulder seasons" occur in early May and late September through October. An increasing number of vacationers are taking
Alaska holidays during these shoulder months to take advantage of mild weather, reduced crowds and discounts on activities and travels. The shoulder months are the perfect time to go boating and fishing.

The Alaskan weather patterns typically change at some point between late August and the middle of September. Frequent rainstorms and cooler weather cause the foliage to turn vivid, bright colors. It's also a great time to view the wild animals in their natural habitat.

Winter runs from November through April and contrary to what many people believe, Alaska isn't dark and inaccessible and the people don't hibernate. While daylight isn't as abundant as in the summer months, many parts of the large state still enjoy 6 to 12 hours of sunlight every day.

Alaska offers plenty of cold weather activities for snow lovers to enjoy. More sporty types might enjoy trying their hands at snowmobiling, snowboarding, downhill skiing, dog sledding, and ice skating or curling.

Fishermen might like to try ice fishing for king salmon or rainbow trout, both of which are commonly caught in the winter months. You can spend the long evenings at a cultural festival, viewing the Northern Lights or cuddling with that special someone in front of a fireplace.

      Set your trip itinerary

some of the more popular tourist destinations include Denali National Park, Kenai Fjords National Park and Mount McKinley, the highest mountain peak in North America. It's also worth taking a driving tour of the picturesque coastal towns and taking a short day cruise to view aquatic wildlife at its very best.

Another option is to choose a travel package offered by a reputable adventure vacation company. For example, Grand American Adventures offers several popular Alaskan tour packages. Sign up for one of these and you'll get to enjoy 8 to 21 days of unique adventures, private transportation and the advice of a professional tour leader.

Alaska is teeming with the opportunities to enjoy outdoor adventures. From water activities to winter sports, you'll find activities that suit your style in America's 49th state.

  • Vietnam is home to some of the Vietnam is home to some of the best spots in the world for adventure travel

    • From: acitvetraveasia
    • Description:

Imagine a country where the major cities are dynamic but not polluted, the people are genuinely friendly and the rural areas are still unspoilt?  Vietnam with unique climate, fascinating history, stunning coastal getaways, majestic mountains and tempting food is definitely the country for you !

Your first stop is Ha Noi, the city with the history of roughly 1,000 years. Must see destination is the Old Quarter which eventually retains most of its ancient charm since French colonial period. Let’s enjoy the quite time with a cup of Vietnamese iced coffee in a very unique way which is served on the balcony of the coffee shop and be prepared for up-coming challenge!

Leaving the major city, cycling routes across the Karst plateau of Ha Giang will amazed you. The route is very tough and tricky, and the mountain pathways are almost vertical in places. The landscape and natural conditions across the 1,600m above sea level area offer the perfect conditions for memorable experiences.

Different from classical travelling tour, you will experience it in an untypical way. Local cuisine will astonish you! Ethnic men are also willing to teach you cooking their special food. As for accommodation, you will surely love to stay with a local family on their colorful tribes. To pass through place to place, you are going to do as a local person on your own foot or bikes. Be reminded that the area’s landscape is Karst plateau with numerous limestone mountains!

Remote track can’t pass through mountains so that you will have to cross 45-km- pathway to Viet Nam yourselves by cycling. With the emergency backup for water, lunch and first-aid, you will ride through secluded valleys, verdant hills, hidden waterfall and switchbacks, which flows seamlessly into some sinuous riverside single track making for fantastic riding. Eventually emerge onto rough tarmac and climb before finally dropping down again to the hot springs of Viet Nam, where you can ease our aching muscles.

      Not for everyone, not forever

From the madness of Hanoi to the untamed beauty of Ha Giang -- each of our destinations offered a unique glimpse into Vietnamese culture. It's not for everyone, but for those willing to brave the unknown, the country is ripe with untapped adventures.

Hurry though. Sprawling resorts are popping up, and the booming tourism business has many young people learning how to cater to the nuances of Western culture more often than celebrating their own. Vietnam is a country on the cusp. In another decade, it may be a cookie-cutter tourist oasis. But for now, the spirit of Vietnam remains.

  • Tips for cruising with childre Tips for cruising with children in Halong Bay

    • From: indochinasails
    • Description:

It is a great experience when your family can spend time travelling together. However, travelling with children can cause some difficulties for parents. Here are some tips that parents should know when joining a cruise in Halong Bay:

      Preparation

Travelling with children, parents should have a list that their children need like:

      • Food: it is obvious that the chefs on board prepare meals for your children (the same menu with parents), but for the small babies, you should add: milk, tea or cookies, snack…
      • Clothes: make sure that you bring warm clothes in the winter and comfortable clothes in the summer for the children.
      • Others: you also should bring some medicine in case your children are not fine.
      Safety on board

The safety on board is very important, especially for children, parents should:
      • Always take notice of the children, keep them in your sight.
      • Make sure that children do not climb on the handrail or the railing on boat. Children are not allowed to stand on the bow.
      • Ask the staffs on board to show you the life vests for children.
      Activities on board

Children can join the activities on board like: cave visiting, kayaking, swimming or fishing village but they need their parents’ attention. Before each activity, children need to be told in advance about the safety so that they are more careful to follow the instructions.

Children also need to be well- equipped with life vests during all the activities.

The role of the tour guide and staffs on board
      • Take care more, playing and chatting with them.
      • Ask the parents if the children need to have dinner early as they need to go to bed earlier than adults.
      • Check with the parents if the menu for adults is also suitable with children; otherwise, the alternative food should be prepared.
      • Prepare some games for children.

    • From: indochinasails
    • Description:

Surrounded by thousands of limestone mountains, Ha Long Sea creates a charming beauty for the bay and makes it unbelievably unique. Coming to Halong Bay, you will be entering a world of water wonders.
      Exciting water sports

Immense water surface in Ha Long is home to a number of water sports such as rafting, kayaking and swimming. Tourists who love adventures can try water motor driving or parachute-pulled canoeing offered on Bai Chay or Tuan Chau beach. While high speed of the water motors brings about thrilling moments, a parachute-pulled canoe tour gives tourists a bird-eye view to spectacular scene of the bay below.
For those wishing to spend more time on sightseeing and discovering the bay by themselves, kayaking is surely the perfect choice. The most impressive moment is when the kayak began moving into the cave. The further one goes inside, the darker and cooler it is. The cave is filled with falling stalactites, and sometimes, one has to crouch down in the boat to avoid hitting his head on them.
Scuba Diving in Halong Bay- New and Exciting
Spacious underwater world in Ha Long with diversified marine creatures is a paradise for snorkeling and scuba diving. The period from April to December, when the temperature of water ranges from 26-29 degree Celsius, is the best time for these kinds of sport. Just put on scuba glasses, diving fins, scuba cylinder, and then jump into the water, a wonderful ocean worldwouldinstantly be opening in front of tourists’ eyes. Thousands of splendid corals such as sun mushroom, leather or stag-horn and colorful fishessuch as sergeant major or Clark’s anemone would definitely amaze anyone. In addition, internationally- licensed and friendly scuba divers and assistants promise safe dive and
      unforgettable experience to tourists.
Soft sandy beaches fringed with coconut palms are not only ideal places for sunbathing or relaxation but also for energetic sport activities like beach volleyball or football. Besides matches played for fun and good health, occasional international competition such as Asian Women’s Beach Volleyball Championships draws attention of many locals and travelers.

      Overnight on luxurious junks

Luxurious junk is movable accommodation, a perfect combination of upscale hotel and convenient transportation. Guests can enjoy marvelous beauty of the world heritage site any time they want while lying on the bed, enjoying coffee on the boat terrace, having lunch in dining room or sunbathing on the top deck.
Besides taking tourists to the highlights of Ha Long Bay, the tour offers them interesting sports and entertainment activities such as scuba diving, kayaking or Vietnamese cooking class.Particularly, tourists who love to wake up early to appreciate the bay’s beauty in the dawn can also join morning Taichi class on the deck.
      Floating fishing villages
Famous for unique scenery with thousands of limestone islands floating on the water, Ha Long attracts tourist by its cultural value as well. In recent years, visiting floating fishing villages in Ha Long such as Vong Vieng or Cua Van have been more popular.
The locals here live on floating houses and mainly earn a living by fishing and marine aquaculture. They go fishing in the morning, selling their catches to bigger boats, which later sell the catches to the mainland. On the way of sigh-seeing around Ha Long Bay, travelers can see some floating markets of the local peopleselling goods for daily use such as vegetable, fruits, rice and fishes.

Tourists can get an insight into the locals’ life byvisiting fish cultivation area. It would be much more interesting if one can have ahome-stay and try daily work of fisherman like rowing boat, casting and hauling the fish net, sitting on coracle and listening to folk songs at night. Besides, there are plenty of souvenirs made from shells and pearls by the locals available for choices. Despite language barrier, friendly and cheerful locals would surely make guests feel comfortable like staying at home.

  • Mexico Fun at the Grand Velas! Mexico Fun at the Grand Velas!

    • From: ajjordan2
    • Description:

Sometimes we need a little luxury to supplement our budget travel…

Grand VelasI’ve seen the term, “luxury redefined” written in brochures, broadcasted on different websites to describe a wide array of products, services, and accommodations. However, the phrase never crept into my mind before visiting the Grand Velas resort in Riviera Nayarit, Mexico. The resort is a true, luxury all-inclusive resort. It stands in a class of its own; where most all-inclusive resorts offer complimentary room service, all-you-can-eat dining options, and bottomless alcoholic beverages, the Grand Velas takes it 10 steps further to create the first-rate service, fine dining, top shelf alcohol, and constant pampering that one would expect from a AAA five-diamond ranked property.

The hotel contains one of the “Leading Spas of the World” (Spa Grand Velas RivieraGrand Velas suite Nayarit) and the spa experience begins at check-in. I arrived at the resort Thursday evening, and within minutes, was treated to a 5-minute complementary neck massage in the lobby. The suites also contain spa-themed accents, such as plush bathrobes, his and her slippers, luxurious Gilchrest & Soames bath products, in-room Jacuzzi, and a private sauna (located in the presidential suites). According to the manager of the property, Rodolfo Gonzalez, “room service at the resort is referred to as “suite service” because of the vastness of the rooms (the suites are 900-1,000+ square feet and 95% have ocean views).

Frida interiorThat evening, I had dinner at one of the hotel’s gourmet restaurants, Frida, named after the Mexican painter, Frida Kahlo. All of the hotel’s restaurants have ocean views, and present unsurpassed luxury, down to the cushioned purse stools. The neutral earth toned décor coupled with the Frida Kahlo recipe inscriptions on the wall offered a very Mediterranean feel.

I sampled their six-course meal, some of which included the aguachile duo salmon and sea scallops, fresh tuna in chili seed crust, marinated duck breast in local honey, and the traditional lime pie.

Margarita Tasting__Grand VelasDuring the trip, I participated in a margarita tasting in the lobby bar, which featured all of the specialty margaritas that Frida offers. Out of the 12 sampled, I favored the Peanuts Signature Margarita, the Cilantro Coriander Margarita, and Tamarind Mint Margarita.

After dinner, I overindulged and ordered room service (their 24-hour menu includes primeGrand Velas Room Service selections, such as grilled flanked steak, beef filet in black pepper sauce, mahi-mahi medallion, Hawaiian pizza, and coconut shrimp in mango and mint sauce).

Kids Club_Grand VelasDespite the level of luxury presented throughout the property, the resort is very welcoming towards kids and families. The resort offers activities such as karaoke, guitar band performances, fiestas, and there is also a kids and teen club available. Some of the exciting inclusive activities located at the resort are windsurfing, snorkeling, kayaking, cycling, tennis, aqua aerobics, boogie boards, as well as scuba diving demonstrations at the pool. There is also fitness center that offers exercise classes during the weekdays, such as Tae-Bo, Pilates, Hath yoga, Zumba, and Danza Polinesia.

In the mornings, I either ordered room service or dined in their beachside restaurant, Azul.Grand Velas_Azul The restaurant offers panoramic views of the Bahia de Banderas, and is open from 7am to 11pm. Cuisines offered are Mexican, Italian, Japanese, and Chinese, as well as grilled selections and seafood.

Frida interiorFriday evening, I dined at the Italian restaurant, Lucca. The interior is inspired by Roman design, and there was a live piano performance during dinner.

The six course meal included items such as the Rustic Lucca style salad, poached artichoke carpaccio, tortelli in cherry tomato sauce, and baked zucchini.

The next morning, I experienced my much-anticipated spa treatment at the multipleSpa_Grand Velas award-winning Spa Grand Velas Riviera Nayarit. I chose the Four Hand Samunprai Massage, which included two massage therapists using hot compressions, exotic herbs, and medicinal heat to sooth muscles and release tension. The spa’s design was very calming, adorned with flowers floating in water, neutral earth toned décor, and a large marbled wall with cascading water.

Spa_Grand VelasBefore my massage, I was treated with the complimentary hour long Hydrotherapy Ritual. This started with a revitalizing shower, followed by a visit to the herbal steam room, sauna time, Jacuzzi soak, followed by a dip in the two-temperature lagoon, with a final multi-jet Swiss shower. Currently, the spa is offering a special of purchasing one of their specialty massages, and selecting another massage for only $10.

Piaf_Grand VelasMy last night at the Grand Velas was spent dining at the French cuisine restaurant, Piaf.  The décor was tastefully elaborate with breathtaking avant garde chandeliers, coupled with live violin music. Some of the selections from the menu included the tri-color cream soup (pumpkin, tomato, pea), grilled Scottish salmon in Chardonnay sauce, and the chocolate moelleux with English crème figs. My personal favorite was the Bourguignonne escargots, which were expertly prepared in a creamy butter sauce.

Besides the opportunity to overindulge in the resorts many premier food selections, the Grand Velas offers the ultimate luxury all-inclusive vacation. Take part in the many complimentary water sports and activities available, experience a massage in one of the Leading Spas of the World, and relax by the serene private beach and pool.
