Picture taken in Old San Juan on a small back street. The photo reminds me of things that we take for granted in our age of technology. The newspaper so simple and a staple may be a thing of the past before we know it.

Vacation Itinerary - Puerto R Vacation Itinerary - Puerto Rico

Description:
Dear Diary,
The awesomeness that is 'US' :P
EEEEEEEEE!! I am super excited!! Our trip to Puerto Rico gets closer and closer every day. Just three more weeks and I am off to a week of sun, sand and hopefully bikinis (still working on that.) The fact the DJ cooks fucking amazing food doesn’t help me in losing weight in any way. Anyways, this will be an epic trip. We are going snorkeling, scuba-diving, zip lining and to top it off, we are camping out on the beach. Imaging waking up listening to the waves hitting the shores in the morning with the cool wind making whoosh whoosh noises.. Ahhhhh..blisss..Ohh that reminds me..I need to pack my yoga mat. Looking forward to do some beach yoga.
I had to time this trip very precisely. With my PTO of 4 days and a national holiday (Good Friday) this will be a 9 day long trip. Also to maximize our stay there, I booked tickets late evening Friday and late morning Sunday. So here is the itinerary:
Friday 22nd March – Flight out of San Antonio at 7pm and will reach San Juan at 5 am the next morning.
Saturday 23rd March – Land at San Juan and pick up rental car and drive to Luquillo Beach to set up camp. Our goal for this day is to just relax and do some snorkeling. Based on my online research Luquillo Beach is apparently a very good beach to snorkel since the water isn’t too rough.
Sunday 24th March – Visit El Yunque rain forest and Zip line. Explore the forest as much as we can. Take some awesome pics and Zip Line through the trees.
Monday 25th March – Take the ferry from Fajardo to Culebra beach and go scuba diving at Flamenco Beach. The company that comes highly recommended is Culebra Divers. Spend the day scuba diving and at the beach and head back to town to eat lunch at Barbara- Rosa’s. In the evening take ferry back to Fajardo and drive back to Luquillo Beach.
Tuesday 26th March – Pack up camp and leave for Ponce. Spend the day there and drive to Lajas in the afternoon and at night drive and set up camp at Anasco.
Wednesday 27th March – Drive to Cumuy Cave and take the tour and in the afternoon take the trip to Arecibo.
Thursday 28th March – Pack up camp at Anasco and drive back to San Juan. Explore San Juan and check into hotel (Yes, we did take 2 nights hotel since we wanted to wine and dine for the actual day of our anniversary)
FRIDAY 29TH MARCH – ANNIVERSARY DAY!! Spend time together J
Saturday 30th March – Check out of hotel and drive to Fajardo. Explore Fajardo during the day and take the bio bay kayak trip in the evening. Return to San Juan airport at night and drop off the car and take flight back to San Antonio L
Sunday 31st March – Flight back to San Antonio.
Yes, I know I skipped the the mountains in this trip but we still have 3 more weeks to plan this out. Maybe we will squeeze it in somehow, but as of now here is the plan. And with flight, hotel, car and our expenses, this trip shouldn't cross our budget of $3000. Lets see if we can make it :)
Safe travels!!

Description:
I chose this Island because there were no "Hostels" in Nasaau and I did not want to spend a hundred bucks for a room when all I needed it for was to bath and sleep. I found that San Juan has loads of them and I went in search of a little R and R there. I was really happy to know that it is a US territory and that the currency was the same as in the US. No hassels about changing money. I booked my flight which was about $350. And I began packing. After rebooking because a terrible storm had hit the Eastcoast and no planes were coming in or going out, I was on my way via Houston, Texas instead of Washington DC. The flights were uneventful except that with flying with United there is no free meal, you have to purchase them while in flight and just to look at what they were serving, I passed. After arriving at the Airport, I immediately went outside to get a taxi to my Hostel and the heat hit me like a ton of bricks. It was so very hot. I had just come from a cold area with layered clothing and I really wanted to take everything off. I sat for a minute and then walked over the the Taxi Kiosk to get my ride. Right away I liked the little slip of paper that hat "Fixed" rates on them. I mean you didn't have to fight with the drivers about prices or that the meter was broke or some such thing. After arriving at the "Palace" Hostel, I checked in and was led to my room to drop my bag off and then to meet others who were lounging around in the many open areas.

Shopping for love in Vietnam's Shopping for love in Vietnam's mountains

Description:
Once a year, with his wife's blessing, Lau Minh Pao gets to have a guilt-free tryst with his ex.
Their rendezvous' have played out more like strolls down memory lane than salacious flings, but they are part of a treasured tradition in this mountainous corner of northern Vietnam that may challenge some more linear concepts of love.
"In the past, we were lovers, but we couldn't get married because we were far apart," Pao simply as he waited for his date on a dark night in the village of Khau Vai in Ha Giang province.
Now when they meet, he said, "we pour our hearts out about the time when we were in love." They are not alone.
For two days each year, on the 26th and 27th of the third month of the lunar calendar, the tiny village of Khau Vai, strung along a saddle in the lush hills near China, is transformed into a "love market."
For nearly a hundred years, the Khau Vai love market (Ha Giang province) as been known as a lovers' rendezvous. This is no ordinary farmer's market. Flirting, courting and, hopefully, canoodling are the order of the day. Hundreds of members of Giay, Nung, Tay, Dzao, San Chi, Lo Lo and Hmong hill tribes trek in from across the mountainous districts of the Dong Van Plateau and as far away as nearby Cao Bang province, some travel days to attend
Legend has it the market dates back to 1919. Legend has it an ethnic Giay girl from Ha Giang province fell in love with an ethnic Nung boy from the neighboring province of Cao Bang. The girl was so beautiful that her tribe did not want to let her marry a man from another tribe and a bloody conflict ensued between the two tribes. Watching tragedy unfold before them, the two lovers sorrowfully decided to part ways to avoid further bloodshed and to restore peace.
But to keep their love alive they made a secret pact to meet once a year on the 27th day of the third lunar month in Khau Vai. Thereafter, the hill village became known as a meeting place for all of those in love.
Young, dreamy singles trek to Khau Vai in hopes of finding a first love. Wayward lovers come to escape their families. Older generations might hope to bump into an old flame. Married men and women often return to the love market to rendezvous with former lovers, and they are allowed to meet again without jealousy from their spouses during this one event of the year.
