  • An impressive trip to Tibet by An impressive trip to Tibet by Beijing-Lhasa Train

    • From: tibettravel
    • Description:

We heard that the best way for first-time travelers to Tibet was taking a train to Tibet for it can help travelers acclimate the altitude of Tibet gradually. But we realized it was a great mistake after we sought proof from a friend who had ever taken a train to Lhasa. He said it was just like travelling at a low altitude when staying on the train to Tibet. Anyway, the breathtaking scenery along the way and the world’s highest railway also attracted us to choose the Beijing-Lhasa train.

We booked the train tickets 10 days before travelling to Tibet. The train from Beijing to Lhasa arrived at Xining in late afternoon of the second day. From Xining, the starting point of the Qinghai-Tibet Railway, our Tibet train journey actually started. Oxygen was supplied from Xining.

When the train ran through the Hoh Xil, we saw gazelles, wild yaks and Tibetan kyang, but we were not lucky enough to have a glance of elegant Tibetan antelope. It did not matter because our Tibet train trip was full of surprises. Especially when the train ran by the beautiful Cuona Lake, we were deeply shocked. It was just located by the railway.

The Beijing to Lhasa train ran over 40 hours to Lhasa. After we reached Lhasa, we realized that it was really wise for us to take shower before boarding the train to Tibet. In addition, we were advised not to take a shower on our first day in Tibet for taking a shower may cause a bad cold which was not helpful for us to acclimating the altitude and environment of Tibet.

Not everyone to Tibet suffers from altitude sickness. But it is best to follow the advice from local tour guide. Generally, travelers can take Rhodiola rosea 10 days before starting to Tibet. After arriving in Tibet, drinking some butter tea is also helpful for reducing the impact of the high altitude.

If you stay at a high-end hotel with good shower facility, taking a shower actually can help you relieve from tiredness. But do keep warm.

After arriving in Lhasa, we transferred to our hotel for a little rest and then went out for dinner. For curiousness about authentic Tibetan food, we found a Tibetan restaurant. We ordered some butter tea, Tibetan Tomato Bun and Yak meat. The Tibetan food was great and very cheap.

I felt a little headache after dinner. Maybe I was a little tired or the altitude began working on me. So I had to go back to the hotel for a good rest and prepare for our coming Lhasa tour.

The next morning, we got up very early to visit the Barkhor Street which is the representative and symbol of the ancient city of Lhasa. Though we got there very early, there were already many pilgrims doing ritual walk along the street. Most of them walk along the Barkhor Street with the prayer wheels while turning prayer wheel and murmuring some words in Tibetan language, but some of them even prostrate along the street. We were impressed and touched by the scene.

Then we paid a visit to Sera Monastery in the afternoon. The Buddhist Scripture Debating among monks is the most attractive part of the monastery. Though we couldn’t understand what they said, the atmosphere was very interesting. They used various gestures during the debating.

Then we made a Tibet Nepal Tour via the Friendship Highway. On the way, we also made a detour to the Everest Base Camp.

The monastery was named Sera which means wild rose in the Tibetan language, because the hill behind it was covered with wild roses in bloom when it was built.

The highlight of the Sera Monastery is the Buddhist Scripture Debate held at its courtyard by monks in this monastery. As a part of their study, lamas must participate in debates to further their comprehension and proceed to more advanced levels of study. The debating traditions in the Sera Monastery are unique among the three famous monasteries in Lhasa. In a battle of words, they supplement their efforts by using a variety of gestures including clapping their hands, pushing their partners for an answer, or plucking their prayer beads to win the virtue of the Buddha.

If you travel to Tibet, do not miss the exciting and interesting debate. It is usually held around 3:00pm. For a clear view of this unique event, an early arrival is recommended.

The first day in Hong Kong, we were residing in a resort not far away from manchester international airport terminal. It was practical for purchasing, and energetic. Otherwise there was easy to take Anping caber car to see the biggest brown seated Buddha on the globe. We went to see the Buddha and had our lunchtime here. There was a position can eat monk meals. • Ali Mountain in Taiwan Ali Mountain in Taiwan

    • From: x123456
    • Description:

Located 75 kilometers away in the east of Jiayi City in Taiwan, Ali Mountain which is surrounded by high mountains is National Forest Recreation Area with an altitude of more than 2000 meters high and with an area of 1400 hectares, where it’s very cool, with an average temperature at 10.6 centigrade. And It’s averagely 14.3 centigrade in summer and 6.4 centigrade in winter.

On our way to Ali Mountain, we sometimes had some rest. At about 11 in the morning, we arrived at the scenic area of Ali Mountain. As expected, refreshing breeze was blowing to me, with clouds haunting groups of beautiful mountains, and sometimes on my skin dropped some water drops which seeped into my skin pores as if they relieved me of some of my tiredness and depression. That’s what I had prayed and dreamed for in my dream. Before we got there, we were all expecting to see beautiful Ali Mountain that looks hazy with some mists haunting it.

And We were also expecting to breathe fresh air there. First of all, we went to Fengqi Lake in Jiayi County at an altitude of 1.405 meters high. Initially, it’s called Fengji Lake because it looks like a dustpan; however since the name sounds very inelegant, later it was given that name. On the other hand, near to a relay station of the railway station in Ali Mountain where trains often pass by is Fengqi Lake, and there are the oldest streets, train-shaped cookies, fast food, and so on. That’s a must-go place for tourists who come to Taiwan.

When I came to Fengqi Lake for the first time, I wanted to have a taste of some fast food there sold at the railway station. Surprisingly, it tasted much better than I had expected. Despite a drumstick, a spiced corned egg, and some vegetable as my simple dishes for my lunch, they reminded me of the past.       Furthermore, From the internal decoration of the railway station, I could imagine the hardships railway workers had gone through.

The Old Street of Fengqi Lake is situated 500 meters away from the train station. In the times when Taiwan was ruled by Japan, the Old Street was a town where geta shoes were made. Ever since tourist industry in Ali Mountain got developed, different kinds of special local foods have been sold at shops in the street, such as local fast food, Toufu, cake and some other delicious food that are all very popular to tourists. Those ancient buildings which were built there along mountains make Fengqi Lake more classic and also this shows Taiwan had a very old culture and history.

  • A trip in Qinghuangdao Isalnd A trip in Qinghuangdao Isalnd

    • From: x123456
    • Description:

I was planning to go to Qinghuangdao Island located in the northeast of Heibei Province in China. I took a train from Beidai River to Shanhaiguan, a scenic area in Qinghuangdao City which has some parts of the features of ancient Great wall, after I bought a train ticket in Beijing at 9 o’ clock in the morning. At the Liuzhuang Village, I took the bus number 34 to the Coastal Bus Station, where there are buses number 22 and number 5 going to the train station of Beidai River. I got off from the number 34 bus and then a few minutes later comes the bus number 22. I just got on the bus without studying any difference of the routes between the bus the number 5 and the bus number 22. However, I was told that there are 8 more bus stops if I take the bus number 22 rather than the number 5 bus to the train station. Having compared the bus route of the bus number 22 with that of the bus number 5 on the map, I was a little worried about whether I have enough time to get to Shanhaiguan, since I thought that it would take 1 hour for the bus number 22 to pass 27 bus stops. However, it took only half hour. In the waiting room, I waited for 40 minutes, during which I got a little hungry and got some food to eat. Half hour later, I arrived at the shanhaiguan train station by bullet train. Out of the exit, I saw there was a bus stop opposite. I took the bus number 25 to Laolongkou bus stop and I got off there. Across a crossroad, I came to a scenic area called Laolongkou. Beside the road, there is a garden where people were taking photos. Since it’s much earlier than I had thought, I went to a small restaurant and ordered a pancake with smoked meat in it and a cool noodles to eat. It spent me 25 Yuan in total. The food there was ok. I was not going to buy tickets to visit parks, but was just walking around, hoping that I would find a way to the sea. On the map, I found the way at the south of the crossroad. I was walking along the road and went through a defensive wall. After a few minutes, a beach came into my sight. There, the locals run the business like riding horses on the beach. I felt the sand is very soft somewhere on the beach, as I walked down to the beach covered with sundried seaweeds as well as some pebbles. As I kept walking to the south of the beach, I came to the scenic area Laolongtou Defensive Wall, but I didn’t go inside. Instead I walked to a rock near the sea, on which there are a lot of sea snails and shells. I sat down on the one sea waves could not impact on, just to have a good look at the sea before I left Qianghangdao Island. A yacht went by me at a quick speed, with white waves behind. At further distance, different-sized ships were sailing on the sea, with the sunlight shinning on it.

When I passed by the train station nearby by bus number 21, I saw very high defensive walls and gate buildings. Since I stayed in Xian for 7 years, they are very familiar to me when I saw them. Getting off at the yingwen bus stop, I planned to have lunch, but the restaurant I went to had been pulled down. Therefore, I had to go shopping with an empty stomach. Going through the city gate of Yingenmen, I saw the West Street where shops are all designed very traditionally with woods. At the end of the street, there is a tourist attraction that is visited each by people from around the world. A friend of mine took a picture of me in front of an ancient building and the trip was almost over. Having looked at time, I found that there was much more time left for me to walk around, than I had thought before, so I just took my time to do it. Every few minute, I could see simple retail shops which have no fence, with a broad at the door on which its retailed goods are written in white chalk. As time went by, it’s dinner time.

The trip in Qinghuangdai Island ended at 8 pm with my having dinner at a restaurant with a good view.

  • A trip in Dali A trip in Dali

    • From: x123456
    • Description:

The autonomous prefecture of Dali which is located in Yunnan Province is an undeveloped and extensive territory in the southwestern part of China, with an area of 29459 square meters, abundant natural resources, beautiful landscapes, and mild climate.

It was in March 2011, when I went to Kunming in Yunnan Province to live. One day, all of sudden, one ideal came across my mind that I would like to visit Dali. I didn’t know why I love it more than Lijiang. Maybe that’s because the air there is much more fresh and there are less busyness and noise. What’s more, Dali is famous for its fresh air and mild climate.
In the evening on Friday in March 25th 2011, I took a train to Dali, where I spent a week travelling and I had a lot of fun during the short trip.

It would be better to go to Dali in March if you like, because it often rains from May to October and also a lot of traditional events of Bai ethnic groups are normally held there in March.

Having spent a night on the train, I woke up at dawn in the next morning and arrived at the train station of Dali. I had reserved a less expensive hotel on the Internet after checking out prices. It’s a two-floored hotel where it’s 50 Yuan for a night, there are individual bathrooms, 24 hours’ hot water service and internet access are provided. On the second floor, you are able to overlook ancient towns of Dali.

On the first day, I went to Tianlongbabu Studio City, a scenic area which is situated at a holiday resort of the provincial level. It’s composed of three parts, including the Dali scenic spot where you are able to see Dali Street, Dali Palace, and Zhennan Prince City, Liao scenic spot where there is an ancient gate, and Xixia Palace’s scenic spot. What’s more, you can ask someone to take a picture of you who wear costumes

After that, I visited Zhangjia Garden. It’s a newly-developed scenic spot where facilities and buildings are all brand-new. As a matter of fact, it’s worth a visit.

Having entered Zhangjia Garden, I watched singing and dancing performances a little bit. And a kind of famous tea from Dali can be tasted for free and it’s called Sandao Tea. while you are visiting, it’s easy to get lost in the garden, where courtyards are very delicate and there are all kinds of flowers, most of which are rare. In addition, it’s called the First Garden of Yunnan surrounded by camellia, rhododendron, and lakes.

Last, having visited some scenic spots in Dali, I went back to the Ancient Town of Dali to hang about at the West Street where the streets all look similar and there are many shops.

The trip in Dali ended like that. Although I went to a lot of scenic spots to visit, I didn’t feel any tired.

  • Beautiful Lijiang City Beautiful Lijiang City

    • From: x123456
    • Description:

Lijiang City, situated in the northwest of Yunnan Province between the Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau and Qingchang Plateau, covers an area of 20600 square kilometers.

Lijiang city the altitude of which is 2418 meters is one of the four well-preserved ancient cities across the country, where there are 12 ethnic groups, such as the Naxi nationality, the Yi nationality, and so on. Whats more, it has the most beautiful landscapes in the world.

It’s 76 kilometers away from Ninglang County to Lugu Lake in Yunnan Province. Lugu Lake is one of the highest plateau lakes in Yunnan Province in altitude. It’s normally 40 meters deep, but 73.2 meters deeper somewhere beneath, after Fuxian Lake. Lugu Lake which is narrow in the east and west but broad in the north and south looks like a trapezoid. The water is very clean.

In the east part of the lake, there is a mountain ridge that stretches down to the middle of the lake and also looks like a dragon dinking water there, so on the lake thus forms a peninsula that divides the whole lake into two parts.

On the Lugu Lake, there are actually 5 small islands all together, including 3 in Yunnan Province and 2 in Sichuan Province. They look like small green boats floating over the lake and also differ from one another. The smaller island among them is the Lige Island near the north of the lake where the ground is flat and houses which are built with wood face towards the lake, with beautiful landscapes around. Located in the middle of the lake, the Tusi Island which is narrow in the east and west but broad in the north and south is 700 meters long and 36 meters high. It was used for leisure and entertainment but since the buildings on the island were all gone, there has been a ruin. The Liwubi Island which is far from the Tusi Island for 3 kilometers is 450 meters long, 200 meters wide, and 43.4 meters high. On the island, there is a very dense forest in the southwest , hillsides in the northeast and also a beach nearby. In addition, a small village is located in the north of the Lugu Lake, surrounded by mountains.

The Wanggu Tower is a symbolic ancient building in Lijiang. It’s a tower building with double eaves on the roof, supported by 16 pillars that are 22 meters long, and it’s 33 meters high. If you would like to visit the Wanggu Tower, you can climb over the Lion Mountain in the Sifang Street and it takes 30 minutes to get there. Actually as you climb the mountain, you can also enjoy scenery. Standing on the Wanggu Tower, you are able to overlook the beautiful Yulong Mountain, villages, new towns, Lijiang Dam, an immense forest, and so on in Lijiang.

  • ::LAKERS FANS VISITING LA:: ::LAKERS FANS VISITING LA::

    • From: ajjordan2
    • Description:

Los Angeles LakersYou won’t see as much purple and gold together in one place as you will on a visit to the Staples Center during a Lakers game. Fans turn out in huge numbers, most decked out in their bright Lakers regalia. The game is very theatrical and fun with film banners floating down at the start of the game, and purple and gold confetti bursts after a successful win. The collective sighs and applause will draw you in and make you feel like a real “Angeleno”-one of the reasons why seeing a Lakers game is the perfect LA experience. Seeing basketball phenoms, Kobe Bryant, Steve Nash, Dwight Howard, and Metta World Peace is momentous in itself.

Here are some suggestions for Lakers fans visiting LA and how to navigate through the city, see the game, and what to do afterwards.

      Nearby Hotels

      JW Marriott L.A. Live

Perhaps the best option for serious Lakers fans is the 54-story, 878-suite JW Marriott. The hotel is located adjacent to the Staples center within L.A. Live; a quick 1 or 2 minute walk will plant you right at the box office. The JW currently has two packages for visitors to Los Angeles, including the Show Your Stub and Stay Package”, which includes discounted room rates, complimentary valet parking, breakfast for two at the hotel’s restaurant (LA Market), and 15 percent off food and beverages at select merchants. The “I Love L.A. LIVE Package” includes luxury accommodations with views of the LA skyline, overnight valet parking and a choice of two L.A. LIVE experiences:

      • Two GRAMMY Museum tickets
      • Two games of bowling with shoe rental at Lucky Strike Bowling
      • Two movie tickets at Regal Cinemas
      • Two $5 ESPN Zone game cards

(Rates for both packages start at $259/night)

      www.lalivemarriott.com

      Figueroa Hotel

The Figueroa Hotel is located across the street from the Staples center and is great option for affordable accommodations (rates start at $148 with overnight parking at $12 a night). The property is Moroccan themed throughout, with plush velvet furniture, earth toned décor and colorful lamps. The moment you walk through the iron gates and into the front door, you feel as though you were transported from downtown LA into North Africa. This is a great choice for a fun, themed stay in Los Angeles. Check out the sultry Figueroa suites, “Casablanca”, “Badia”, and “Marrakech”- perfect for a romantic visit.

      www.figueroahotel.com

      Millennium Biltmore Hotel

The 683-room hotel is located less than a mile away from the Staples center, making it a quick 5 minute cab ride. The hotel has preserved its 1920’s ambiance from the gold and fabric chairs to the elegant drapes in each room. The hotel amenities include a health club with fitness equipment, sauna, jacuzzi, steam room and an original Roman-style indoor pool. The “Now, Then, and Again” package includes overnight accommodations, the popular afternoon Tea for two, and 2 tickets to the Los Angeles Conservancy's hosted walking tour of the Biltmore (rates start at $199/night). The “Classic Biltmore” package includes accommodations in a Classic Room, and your choice of either valet parking or breakfast buffet for two at Smeraldi’s restaurant ($179/night).

       www.millenniumhotels.com/Biltmore

      Transportation to the Game

      Metro

If you choose to stay outside of downtown Los Angeles, the best no-hassle way to get to the Staples center is via Metro. The Metro Expo Line will drop you 2 blocks from the stadium, and therefore you don’t have to deal with the varying traffic downtown. Take the Expo Line to Pico station and walk over.

      Driving

The West Garage (Lot W, Gate B) offers flat rates of $10-$25 for parking 3.5 hours or more. You can purchase prepaid tickets online (Pre-paid Parking). Also, there are various parking lots located across from L.A. Live that start at $10 and up flat rates. There is a chance you may find street parking a few blocks from the stadium if you arrive early.

The Game is Over, Whats Next?

       Bikes & Hikes LA

Bikes & Hikes LA is an ecotourism company located in West Hollywood that implements non-polluting, active ways to show you the city. They have a range of tours for you to choose from, including the “Legendary Homes Tour”, where you will see dwelling places of stars such as Marilyn Monroe, Lucille Ball, and the mansion where Michael Jackson died.

      http://www.bikeshikes.com

      Restaurants & Bars

There are a variety of trendy restaurants and bars located in the popular areas of downtown LA, West Hollywood, Hollywood, Santa Monica, and Beverly Hills. A popular bar for after a Lakers game is Yard House located at LA Live. There is late-night happy hour during the weekdays starting at 10pm. Other popular Los Angeles restaurants include Roscoe’s Chicken & Waffles and Wolfgang Puck.
