This was taken at the Wakodahatchee Wetlands in western Palm Beach County. Makes you wonder what this bird is thinking. Or does he know something we don't know?
Beautiful sunny day at the Wakodahatchee Wetlands in western Palm Beach County.
Recently walked around the boardwalk at the Wakodahatchee Wetlands in western Palm Beach County...where I came upon this bucolic scene.
Look at this full size, so you can see how mother nature engineered the purple gallinule's legs and feet so he could walk on leaves.
Recently took a walk around the boardwalk at Wakodahatchee Wetlands in Palm Beach County. About 10 minutes in, the battery in my camera died. But I did get a few. Look at this full size, so you can see how his legs and feet are twisted around the reed. He's reaching for his lunch.

Pompeii was destroyed, and completely buried, during an eruption of Mount Vesuvius during two days in 79 AD. The excavated town offers a snapshot of Roman life in the 1st century, frozen at the moment it was buried on that day in August. The forum, the baths, many houses and some out-of-town villas remain surprisingly well preserved.
La Bocca della Verità or "the Mouth of Truth" is located in the portico of the church of Santa Maria in Rome. The sculpture is thought to be part of a first century Roman manhole cover. It is most known for its use as a lie detector. It was believed that if you told a lie while your hand was in the mouth of the sculpture, it would be chopped off. Of course, what happened is that there was a priest below in the church, and he would decide whether you kept your hand or not.
My growing-up friend lives in France. She has a flat in Paris and a 14th century farmhouse in Burgundy in a little town called Darcy (about 45 minutes north of Dijon). Everytime we drive from the train station, I see this little building. And when I look at this picture, it makes me think of my life-long friend.
One of the wonderful things about Paris is the food.
Tallulah the nine-pound, dapple dachshund wishes everyone at Budget Travel a very Merry holiday.
The great blue heron is the largest heron in North America. It stands three to four feet tall and has a wingspan of almost six feet. It has blue-gray feathers on most of its body and a plume of feathers on its chest and back. It has a long, pointed yellow bill and long legs. Adults have white on the top of their heads and long black plumes above their eyes. This fellow was across the canal.
Outside of Prague is a bohemian crystal factory where they make fine crystal. In fact, most of the Waterford crystal is made here. We toured the factory. We found it very interesting that there were no barriers or ropes to keep you away from the actual workers and their work. We commented that in the U.S., there would probably be a glass wall between the tourists and the factory.

Santorini is a barren, rocky Greek island just opposite a volcano, with black and red beaches and towns situated on high cliffs offering breathtaking views and fantastic sunsets. Santorini has a dramatic beauty as opposed to lush and green islands. The volcano is still active—the last eruption was in 1950 and caused an earthquake that destroyed many villages on the island. The island's official name is Thira and its main town, Fira, is also the capital of the Cyclades islands.
